Thought I'd post a pic of the 970 Case I was running on the rock picker yesterday. My brother's tractor but he has been helping out picking rocks while I was busy seeding, spraying, etc. Yesterday I got to run it and have to say it is better on the rock picker than the newer 2090 Case. That foot throttle is so handy for the job. And the hydraulic levers are just right there under my hand as I lean on the arm rest. SMooth action too and I can pick rocks out of the topsoil without getting much trash due to the excellent lever response. Or maybe it is just the Degelman picker is superior to the Crown picker I usually run with my 2090.
I took this shot of it yesterday as it was starting to rain. Good timing for the crop just germinating and emerging.

If yours had wheel weights and a cargo strap holding the hood in place it would be a twin sister to my haying/feeding tractor.
Tough old machine that just keeps going and going.
If how good my 1957 Case 600 still runs is any indication I figure the 970 should be good to go for another 20 years.

Either the 970 or 1370 would likely get the most under rated tractor status in most any competition. Dad bought a new one in 75 or 76 and I spent a good many hours pulling a 5-16s plow or 16' disc. Good tough tractor.

This was my uncle's tractor for years. His main field tractor. That 401 is a unique sounding engine somewhat reminiscent of the 930 I used to run. The dry disk brakes are a weak spot. Somebody eventually forgets to release the park brake and burns them up a few times and they are done. I kept that in mind yesterday while backing downhill to the edge of a slough to dump the rocks from the picker.

Looks like a good job for the Case!. We have a Degelman like that, only ours is/was ground drive. I pull it with an 826 IH, it takes a good bit of traction with that ground drive once you lower it down. I was hauling it back to the farm last week from a field down the road and the tire hit a pothole in the road, and there was enough slack to allow the chain to jump off when I hit that pothole. When your doing around 23 miles perbhour, that chain sounded like a .22 when it balled up and broke in two, took about half a second lol. I have a hydraulic motor and hope to gear it down with a big sprocket and rebuild some other stuff on it this next fall. We'll see...
