soybean population

In your part of the country what population do you plant your soybeans at.Here in eastern Canada we try for around 185000 seeds per acre.Curious!!

I've been planting at 200.000 for a good number of years, With seed at 90% germ that puts you at 180.000 and that's with the hope you really get 170.000 population. Its been working good so far and I like it when it comes time to cut them ! Oh I'm in SW Ohio. Bandit

Here in mid western Ontario, most are planted at 160,000. This year I bumped mine to 180,000 in 15 inch rows because conditions were not ideal at planting. After 10 days, including snow and a 2 inch deluge plus cold weather, they are just starting to emerge......the last few days were our first over 20 degrees. What sort of heat unit or maturity bean do you plant down East? Ben

I'm in the 145000 to 160000 just depends on the conditions. I wanted to plant some about 2 weeks ago . That cold was holding me back. Now in about the same boat as Bandit. The corn is in as of last weekend. Now if the weather holds for some beans.

I find 120,000 to 140,000 in twin 30" rows is more than enough. Last year, I had a field that, due to weather, only emerged at between 80 to 100,000 and it still managed to run 52 bushels/acre. A lot will depend on variety, planting method, and enviromeqnt . those planting short varieties, with a drill, into heavy clay will be considerably higher. This is sw Ontario.
