Not one to Complain BUT !

A month ago Sunday I got into the field for the first and only time this year, It has been raining ever sense. Well we have had 3 days in a row ware it hasn't rained and this morning I watched the weather to see how long it would last and I got my answer , Not long enough ! There's rain in the forecast for the next 6 days ! I'm one to complain about the weather because there's nothing you can do about it , But this is starting to be a real problem hear in SW Ohio. All the corn or soybeans planted a month ago don't look good at all and most will need replanted if "IF" it ever dries up ! I have plenty to do in the shop but man I am starting to get worried a bit, Another week of rain and it will take another week or week and a half to dry out enough to start planting again. I know there's nothing I can do but wait now and see what happens . But we have had 3 nice warm sunny days in a row so I cant really complain about that. But man is it wet ! Bandit

Here in west Michigan it's been about the same, only the temps are a little cooler because of Lake Michigan. Next time they say it's going to be an El Nino winter, I guess this is the weather to expect in the spring...

That is unreal horrible weather to deal with. At least if you only were able to plant one day so far most of your seed and fertilizer would still be protected.

NEKS is in the same boat. I got about 50 acres worked and about 100 sprayed. That was a couple weeks ago. We are supposed to have a 50% chance of rain for the next week and a half. I went thistle spraying today and found ragweed two feet tall in fields I was going to just burn down. A year ago this happened and I didn't start planting beans until the 16th of June. I barely saw the inside of the house for the next 10 days and got all the ground worked or sprayed and planted. It turned out a good crop but I had hoped to not repeat that.

I don't have anything planted yet, A month ago I got into the field one time to disk up some ground to kill the grass and weeds and to warm it up, It was cold for sure and needed turned. Most of what is planted around here is corn and most of it will have to be replanted, There's a few fields of soybeans planted that don't look to bad but there spotty. You can drive down the roads and see field after field that hasn't been touched yet just waiting for dry weather. Its starting to worry me, Its getting late and its still wet ! Bandit

There are so many fields that look like hay field right now it aint even funny ! Very little is planted around here because it so wet and it just keeps on raining ! If it don't dry up soon I think there is going to be a lot of ground sitting idle this year, It will be the first time in a long time if it does. 6 more days of rain and a week or more to dry up enough to work ground or to no-till it and were in the middle of June witch aint to bad but if we get more rain who knows what will happen. Bandit

Lot of folks have way to much H20, some like us are on the other side of that, right now we are well over 4" behind for the year and my hay is really showing it, now that is mot much to most of you but to us who get 14" total for the year including snow this is not looking good,,, sure wish we could share it better,, Oh well that farming
cnt

I been on both sides of this, Month or so without any rain and hot and humid or like this last 30 days ware its been cool and rainy. That is one of the wonders of farming, Nothing we can do about it but deal with it. This is one that nobody in this big area has been able to do anything for a month, Everyone has just been sitting watching it rain. Last night I did see some tractors and equipment on the road getting ready to roll if the weather holds but its not looking good ! Aint farming fun ! Bandit

I know we cant do anything about the weather but boy its getting rough around here . In the last 30 days its rained 26 days of that time and guys are getting really worried they might not be able to plant all there ground. All we can do is sit and wait for dry weather and pray we get some so we can plant and hopefully get a crop in. What corn was planted a month ago is ether up yellow and spotty or it routed in the ground because its so wet. Oh well there's always next year ! LOL Bandit

IIRC, I'm a little south of you in Adams county.

We were so dry in April, I was getting concerned...I don't do crops except for hay to feed my cows, and it wasn't growing at all it was so dry.

Now with all the rain, hay looks good, but I can't cut it.

We'll get it done sometime.

Fred

Your forecast looks very similar to ours here in n/w WI. We don't need any more moisture for a while, either... though we haven't been as wet as you. I started with tillage on April 22, but wasn't able to plant anything until May 10th... then another wet spell holding us up another 10-12 days. I only have 42 acres of corn left to plant, but there's no way to take it from sod to planted in one day.

Be thankful you have rain. We haven't had a good rain in weeks in north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee. The full season crops are in the ground for the most part and wheat cutting is only a week or two away. 93* days will suck what little bit of moisture is left in the ground out and speed up the wheat cutting. I think we are 5-6 inches behind on rainfall up to this point here.

Fred I know what you mean , I looked good there in the middle of April and it started to rain and it hasn't stopped sense! With the rain they say we're going to get I'm wondering if I'm ever going to get back in the field to plant. Time will tell but man it's wet ! Bandit

We were about an inch behind on rain for the year in April but now were 2 inches above average for the year as of now. 3 inches this month and more on the way, Wish I could send you some. There are so many fields around that haven't been touched yet this year you wouldn't believe it, There's 3 times as much unplanted as planted so it aint looking good for us. Bandit
