haying almost done

Jeff mowed about 2 weeks earlier this year, but it is so dry here right now if he waited much longer the hay quality would have plummeted. Hopefully we will get some moisture before the second cutting. Finished raking about an hour ago and the feller baling will finish within an hour. 83 degrees and a bit humid today. With a little luck we will have everything bagged before the scheduled rain tomorrow. 30-40 percent chance of rain the rest of the week. Hope it does rain. We need it.

Crazy weather this year. Here in Central Kansas I was complaining since the first of the year we had no rain. Now, for the last 30 days it won't quit. Got another .70 this morning and calling for rain all week except tomorrow. Most of next week. I have Brome I would love to get started on but fields are mushy and rain in the forecast for the next several days.

Never...Ever...did I think in Central KS I would be saying I wish the rain would hold off. Very few beans in the ground here. Oh well, I know it will shut off soon enough and I can start complaining how we can't get any rain here..lol! I will try to send some your way - Bob

Haven't even thought of doing hay yet here in my area due to lack of rain. In the last couple days we have had some rain which should help the hay out a lot. I pretty much figure that I will have to start doing hay the next time we have 4 or so day where there not calling for any rain

It feels good to get done with the 1st cutting. I finished mine yesterday. This has been a very unusual May. My last that I baled had a little rain on it but it wasn't hurt too bad. The humidity has been very low so most of the hay is good quality. Last year I hadn't even started before June 1st and it was to mature befor I got done.

Rain is falling now so a 2nd cutting should be coming off in a few weeks.

Totally opposite of us. Here it's been raining for what seems like a month. Today was the first sunny day with pretty much zero percent chance of rain, but 20% chance tomorrow and more the days after that.

Bare minimum it'll be two weeks before I get started. Hauled manure all day,got at least three more days of hauling. Still some water standing in every field that I have to plant yet.

Rolled up my first 4 net wrap bales just this evening, as a test for tomorrow. Mowed it yesterday morning and the evening before. Got about 70 to do tomorrow. Hay is the nicest I can remember in years, around this area. SE Ohio.

Jeff is behind on hauling manure this year, too. Too wet earlier, and now the renters have the corn planted and it's coming up so he will have to forego the spreading shortly. Of course now he will have meadows to spread on, but the deal is that he spreads the manure he doesn't need for our hay ground on the ground we rent so the renter doesn't have to haul his manure the distance between our two farms, and the renter let's Jeff use his mower to mow our hay. Good deal for both of us.
