Got the corn in.

On Friday I was able to get the corn in. We plant some small fields. The planter had some snapped role pins as usual and since it was apart I cleaned everything. Took 6+ hours to clean it/fix it and only 30-45 minutes to plant. But we put it away knowing that it is in good shape with lots of oil/grease/lube on all the chains/moving parts.

Dad had one of those planters for many years. Planted quite a few tousand acres with it in that time. A very reliable planter.

I've found if I take the time to set it up right that it will work as much as I need it too. It takes time to learn about these but its worth it. This summer we are building a shed to house the rest of my equipment and I'll feel better once everything is under roof.

I'm half done. I just finished up the last of my picking corn. Still have my silage corn to get in yet. Chance of rain Wednesday through Saturday. I've got at least four days of manure hauling around the wet spots yet. Hopefully we won't get too much rain and I'll be able to finish up next week.

I blew a marker cylinder this afternoon, then a lift cylinder hose at the far end of the field when I was almost done. Had to walk all the way to the other end and get the other tractor and fertilizer wagon and take that home to go get a hose made. Everything's home, pressure washed and parked in the toolshed for now.

I have a 1240 finger pickup planter too. I cannot get it to plant corn reliably. It skips and doubles terrible!! Do you have any tricks to making these things plant??

I tore the finger pickup mechanism apart to clean it out on the one unit. It was filthy with pink residue from years of corn planting and no cleaning. I wish I had the time to redo everything but I just don't right now. I do know that our main drive shaft was slipping terrible when I first got it and I had to Farmer Fix it to get it to hold. 4 years later its still working.
