When I was a kid, I got to watch a contractor build a new township road with elevating scrapers. One scraper was pulled by a Monarch crawler and the other was supposed to be pulled by a CAT 60. The Monarch had a steering wheel; it worked every day as it started easy. Sometimes they would spend half a day getting that 60 started; some days it never ran at all. I knew a few people who were hurt pretty bad when the bar didn't release fast enough from the flywheel. Broken arms and legs were the most common injuries from starting one of those 60's.
