Hello all, first time user and first time tractor owner. I have a 70 ford model 753. 3000 I think. 3cyl 6 speed. Been loading and unloading soil all week then all of a sudden it would barely move in 1st gear when I would try to scoop up a pile. For a while I was able to put it in 2nd drive around fast for a couple seconds put it back in first and have power again to scoop up soil and drive around at proper speed. Now tractor barely moves in low gears and doesn't move in hi gears. The tractor shifts fine the engine runs great. All fluids were drained and topped off proper Could this be a problem with my transmission. Need some expert advice please. Thank you nate

It may be trying to go into two gears at once, possibly due to broken shift rail poppet/detent springs. Take off the shifter housing on the top of the transmission and check the small springs (about 3/8 or 1/2 inch I think) that put pressure on a small steel ball that engages the detent in the shift rail. These springs rust, corrode and break, allowing the shift forks to move when they should not. Cheap and easy to replace. That top shifter housing holds pressure on the springs/balls. I have had to get the spring pieces out with a magnet and small pick. Don't drop the balls into the main housing!

You should be able to feel the detents when you move the shifter from one gear to the other.

I bet your clutch is slipping.Does your pedal have any free play?Maybe it needs adjusting.Does the engine rpm stay the same or maybe increase a little when it stops moving? That would mean it is slipping. If you determine it is slipping, and you have free play in the pedal,it may be time for a new clutch.Loader work is hard on clutch life, and you have to keep free play in the pedal. As the clutch wears you lose free play. When you have no free play it is like driving with your foot depressing the pedal.Mark

It's your clutch.
You might get by - for a while - by
adjusting it but likely it's time for a new
one.
Requires you split your tractor.
Does your 6 speed have live PTO or
transmission pto?
It could have either.
A single clutch is about $150 + shipping.
A double clutch is about $350 +.
Both are available from this site at
competitive prices.
Split the tractor first and then order your
parts. They used a couple of different
spline counts on those so you want to get
the right one.
If/when you do it replace your transmission
input shaft seal/s.

The clutch is slipping. Try adjusting it first because if the free travel is used up then the linkage will prevent it from fully engaging.
Adjust it so you have minimum of 1" free travel at the pedal.
Beyond that... the clutch is shot. I think 350 is perhaps a bit optimistic by half what I'm used to paying for new double clutches... but
that would obviously depend on where you buy them.
I usually buy a reman from Hy-Capacity and often an OEM main disc if it's not supplied with the kit.

Yes.... they could. And most did. Only the 4 speed and I believe the 6x4 manual shuttle were made with transmission PTO only.
