Because the ridge on top of the sleeves was so bad, I had to remove them down with rod attached. I did not realize the rod would not fit in the cylinder to install the new piston and rod from the top. HELP!!

You should get a ridge cutter and remove that first, rods will rarely go out the bottom.

Most auto parts places rent them

It wasn't the rods that were keeping them and the pistons from being taken out upawards, it was the ridge at the top of the cyl, the rings were hitting on it. After you install new sleeves, the rods will slide right down them without any interfearence.

Wait a minute here. He says the rod won't fit into the cylinder from the top. What engine is this. Most rods that are larger than the cylinder bore have the cap cut off at an angle to facilitate their fitting through the cylinder.

Smokey,A 2N Ford,Of course the rods and pistons can be installed from the top. You have to install new pistons properly orientated on the rods with the notch on piston to front with rod tangs, check and replace wrist pin bushings if worn.
You need to post your questions over on the N Board.

I am going to try Installing the new piston to the oil ring , then stick the rod up and hope it comes up to put the new wrist pin ib. then push the piston in the hole. Smokey
By the way, what is the n board?
