A new one to me!

I bought a JD 22A plow a could of years ago. One wheel had a massive leak and the other had a very slow one.

I just got around to getting the tires off (heck getting the wheels of the plow was fun enough) and found this:

I think I know why the tube has a hole in it. The best part is the other wheel! Cleary they were having issues (the tube has one patch aleady) so instead of cleaning and painting the inside of the wheel they went straight to Gorilla Tape!

It's a first for me anyway...

Those old wheels with the swaged spokes can make a hole in the tube even when clean. I have often wrapped tape around the center to cover the spokes.

Interesting. I'm going to clean them up but after I'm done maybe I'll put some tape back over where the spokes attach.

The tube that was in the rusty rim is shot, more of a tear then a hole the other has a pin hole that should patch pretty easily.

Hey that should work. Remember the Red-Green show? The handymans secret weapon. DUCT tape! Time to sand blast and fill the rough surface with filler? New tubes and you should be ready to do your thing at a plow day! I saw one rim where the guy soldered a penny into the hole in a rim.

On rims I clean up/repair I use pickup truck bed liner spray on them. It is a bit thicker then paint and holds up real well and covers things that might put a hole in the tube

I'm thinking I'm going to try "Chassis Saver" on it. I hate sandblasting...well I hate the process, I like the finished product.

Anyway, Chassis Saver is suppose to seal/convert rust, it's high build and from what I'm told is tough as nails.

I need some quality time with a wire brush. We will see...

time for the electrolysis tank
will fix that right up in a day or two
then need a rim band or at least some of that gorilla tape

A mixture of 9 parts water, and one part molasses in a couple weeks it will be shinny metal. That is if you aren't in a hurry. Stan

Some years ago I sold a tractor with a
bad rear rim. In order to make it
easier for the buyer to load and
transport I broke it down put in a new
tube and wrapped the rim with gorilla
tape to cover the big holes and keep
the tube in. Worked great.
