Farmall M hydraulic fittings, and over tightening.

I recently acquired a Farmall M and the previous owner had threaded a hydraulic hose into one of the fittings with no quick connect. Now I can't unthread the hose from the fitting, Ive' tried next to every trick in the book; penetrating oil, vice grips, etc... My best guess is that the hose was over tightened, and just to clarify theres no rust present on the fitting or on the hose. Any advice on how to remove the hose?

no real sure what u mean... but if its a screw on hose fitting then the fitting is left hand thread that goes over the hose. then the centre is screwed into that fitting. send a picture for clarification.

Try a pipe wrench with a cheater pipe if needed. If that doesn't work cut the fitting at the elbow, unscrew and replace the elbow with a new one.

My dad was that way he always had them over tighten biggest pipe wrench he could find. I get them snug then if it leaked tighten a little more

Not trying to step on toes here, but to clarify rustred is talking about a fitting made to install on a hydraulic hose. That type of fitting does not require a crimp collar but rather has a threaded tapered barb that screws into the collar with fine threads. Hard to describe, but I don't think it has anything to do with your issue. I think a good quality pipe wrench will solve your issue.

I thought a photo might help more. I tried the pipe wrench, but no success. I'm out of ideas. I don't remember who said it, but but someone said something about cutting the fitting. If I decide to cut it, where should I cut? I'm also still open to new ideas.

If it comes to it cut where the silver and the red come together. From what I can see you need to try harder with a good fitting wrench or a pipe wrench. I for one wouldn't give up and cut until I had it rounded off. Get a good pipe wrench and a cheater pipe to extend the handle. I think you can get it loose.

When you use the big pipe wrench with a cheater you will want to put another on the 90 (backer) so you don't break it, BTDT

Now that I see the picture I'm going to say I totally agree with angle iron. You need a good quality open end wrench. Craftsman might do, if you know anybody that mechanics for a living see if they have a Snap-on brand they would loan you. Best I've seen at not spreading at the open end.

Get the hose loose on the other end. Remove the plug in rear 90 and screw it out. Take pin out of clutch rod so it drops down at front. Screw 90 out with hose. Put 90 in vice and heat 90 and screw hose out. really if the hose fitting doesn't round off you should be able to break a 1/2 inch pipe fitting. Don't get rough with it mounted on the tractor because if you break the nipple off going into the hydraulic unit you could be dropping it out to remove it, depending on where it breaks. If I remember correct some of the 90 if not all original have a braze on 90 to nipple so both screw out of the hydraulic unit together.

No reason that shouldn't come loose with a pipe wrench, unless some moron used Loctite instead of sealant. I would be careful using a cheater bar, you can break the pipe off where it screws into the pump. If it were mine, Id take the hose loose on the other end, drop that linkage for room, and unscrew the whole thing and get it on the vise, or just replace the whole works.

ou are right about holding on the 90 I did not think about that.

1st use a heavy hammer as a back-up & another one to hammer around that elbow where the hose is in. Then a tight fitting open end wrench on the hex and a pipe wrench on the elbow.

agree with the others...from that pic, it'll come out. Not enough force applied yet.
A good wrench would have rounded it by now with enough force applied....or snapped it right off at the threads.

If you can't get a good angle to grunt, get that elbow in your vise.
Squeeze yer [i:6cf7f8c884]good[/i:6cf7f8c884] vise grips on til your wrist pops (make sure the visegrips are in the right direction)...whack em with a hammer to shock it,
then put yer arm to it.
It'll come loose, break off, or the corner of your heavily reinforced bench will break off. :)
If you're feeling lazy, when it is in your vise, wave a little heat at it first.
