Got the mower out...

The super A has been in the shed for a few years and has finally returned to duty. I had some coolant in the oil when I changed the oil and had a stuck open intake valve but it runs great now. I am taking the wait and see approach on the coolant issue. The six foot deck can really cover some ground.

Check that oil before you run it each time - one of the sleeves is probably leaking at the seal. I've got an old A that's like yours. I run it if I need to mow something out of the ordinary or an auger needs to be used. It's a great little auger tractor and those woods mowers do a perfect job. She fires every time but the engine on mine is getting very tired. I'm shocked I haven't found coolant in the oil yet.

I was hoping with some heat on the sleeve gaskets they would heal themselves. Don't think I will get that lucky.

I see your tractor has the support-rod that comes with the cast-iron industrial axel, but the axel appears to be round. Or am I seeing things?

Sleeve o=ring once they start to leak your pretty much in for a open it up job. You might get lucky with something like Bar-leak copper but that at best is a gamble

I have the same setup, have had it over 20 years. Right now and all summer my daughter will be mowing the ball field at her church. I had to go over and start it for her last week, now I have to get a new battery for it. I bought it to replace a 20 year old Cub Cadet that was worn out. It turns just as sharp as the CC and climbs the slopes just as well. Great machine.

Best way to check is drop the pan and mite need to let it set a couple days to see if any coolant is leaking at bottom of the sleeve if no leak its probably head gasket. Just had one leaking but it wasnt the o-rings ended up being head gasket

It is an industrial due to the yellow paint under the red and it has a foot throttle and yes it is a round axle. The model is an FAA-1 isn't that the industrial designation as well? Serial number puts it at a late 52 I think.

This one does not turn sharp. The gauge wheels on the mower conflict with the front tires of the tractor. I don't know who set this one up but of I use it much this summer it's going to drive me crazy and will have to be dealt with.

Aft looking at the yard today it leaving strips between the blades. I think it's due for a set of blades.
