??--JD 2510 gas problem

I've got a 2510 I bought from a guy to manage horse manure, unload big bales, and rack snow (not heavy usage). The thing has run fine.....until one day I shut it off. 10 minutes later I walked by and smelled gasoline. Gas was just dripping out of the carb. I ended up siphoning the gas out of the tank. Is this a carb issue? stuck float? fuel pump issue? Thanks for your help!

Stuck float, a bit of trash in the needle and seat, or a sunk float. Find the fuel shutoff at the tank. Close it. Start
the tractor and let it run out of fuel. (this causes the float to go to the bottom of the bowl) open the valve at the tank
this can wash out a particle of rust or trash and fix it. If the issue continuesyou will need to disassemble the bowl and
find the issue. The best advice is to always shut off the fuel when leaving the tractor. A gravity system with the fuel on
often will flood. Jim

As I am not a mechanic(more of a parts replacer) should I consider a rebuilt carb? or perhaps a new replacement?

You do not have to siphon the gas out of tank. There must be a fuel shut off on bottom of tank or perhaps by sediment bowl. As for dripping from carb, as jannicolson said but first thing to do is just take a
wooden hammer handle and tap on carb with tractor running. Sometimes that simple move will jar a spec of crud loose that is stuck in needle. Do not replace that carb. Worst case you will have to take it
apart and clean it.

I have taken the carb off the intake. I will try to clean, reinstall, and see what happens! This tractor has a loader and access to front of engine is kind of limited. I looked for a shutoff valve but couldn't see one. I just received the service manuals so maybe I will have a clue going forward. Thanks for your help!

Check the oil in the engine BEFORE you start it. I have seen that problem fill the crankcase with gasoline!

UPDATE: I took the carb apart and flushed both halves with coleman fuel. I'm amazed at how much fine dirt came out. Put it back together, reinstalled. Also, found the tank drain and shutoff valve, flushed bottom of tank a little, then cranked engine until gas came out the fuel line(just to flush line). It fired rightup. Let it idle a few minutes, turned it off.....NO DRIP! Apparently, problem is fixed. BTW, the fuel pump does not have a settling bowl so must be a aftermarket replacement. So, my question now: Can I add an inline filter without compromising performance?
