Just went out and checked all the chickens. Big chickens are fine in their big coop. The light was still unplugged in the little chick coop and there were 3 chicks inside, one on the edge, and one we found over by the truck, about 50 feet away. We used to have 6 total. Looking around we find a very thin line of feathers leading to the woods. The trail was not direct, zigzagged and went under trees and bushes very low and stiff. Can't find any tracks. Here and there there's a bigger clump of wet feathers. What would do this? Wouldn't think dogs, they wouldn't fit where the feather trail went. It was my fault as I took the chicks out to free range and new that one of them doesn't yet know how to fly back in, and that is the missing one. Would a cat do this? I thought I had all the chicken predator stuff figured out by now but I guess not. Search to be continued in the morning.
