If we plant rose bushes skunks dig them up if they are not protected. There is something in the peat that is on the roots that they like

if it still had the nut on it then it was a squirrel. they will do that in the woods with the hickory nuts.

I had that happen planting hybrid hazels. Sprayed egg stuff on the little plant to discourage deer browsing and that attracted raccoons to dig up the plant and leave it lay in the sun. Leo

I planted some pin oak saplings and something would dig them out at night and leave them about 4 feet away. Ended up being a raccoon.

Sounds like a good idea, castrate the sapling before planting. Try it next time.

I planted 160 pecan trees. deer would grab ahold of them and pull them out of the ground, eat the leaves and chew off the top of the tree, rest of it would be laying on the ground.

Voles. Got them all over my yard. They usually have holes 4 to 6 inches apart. Get rid of them quick!
