Last week I was helping a friend with his farmall H it had been sitting for 11 yrs with broken cam gear. For the past 5 or 6 yrs I've been telling him when I get time we're gonna fix that tractor, now it finally happened. Fuel tank and sediment bowl was a mess. We decided on using muratic acid in the fuel tank to attack the rust, did a search on here for a clue how to go about doing it. After dumping the muratic acid we rinsed with water then rinsed again with baking soda water mix then straight water again. The whole time we were doing this I was wondering how are we gonna get the moisture out of the tank neither one of us has a hair dryer. This is when a light went off in my head, I said lets dump rubbing alcohol in and slosh it around. My understanding is the alcohol should absorb the water and when we dump that out nearly all the water will be gone. we then put some diesel fuel in and sloshed it around and drained it before mounting it on the tractor. We did get it running that day but need to fix an oil leak before pulling it out of the shop we both got busy preparing for and planting corn. Do ya think the alcohol rinse did any good? Their's no water in the bottom of the sediment bowl.
