Sparayer Pump Needs

I have a spray boom that accommodates 6 nozzles, covers 3 wide corn rows nicely. If I wish to push 20 gallon/acre nozzles at 30 p.s.i. with a common 12 volt sprayer pump, how much pump do I need? What gpm? Any help?

How fast are you going to drive?

Can you straddle one row or three rows? Or offset your hitch? You will have to if you take 3 rows

At 5mph you cover about 1/3 of acre in 6 minutes.

So in theory, if I cover 1/3 acre in 6 minutes, that would be 1 acre in 18 minutes. If I want 20 gallons, I need to move 1.1 gallons per minute at say 30 psi at the nozzle?

That's right. It's pretty simple arithmetic, but you need to know if you can spray at 5 mph. Best to take the tractor out in a field and see how fast you really want to go. Then look at the manufacturer's data for your nozzles. They will tell you gpm per nozzle at rated pressure. You really want to use the nozzles at the pressure they are rated at in order to get a good spray pattern.
