finish mowers

I'm looking for a finish mower for my 8n and was I don't have the money for a new one but was wondering if maybe I should hold off awhile and get a good new one or would a used one be just as good

Used ones are averaging $600 around Wooster Nick, there are cheaper ones out there but you better figure on replacing bearings, etc....IF you can find the parts.

If you go used, as I did, my vote would be for Woods. Everything is available and pretty reasonably priced. I few years back I decided to tear mine completely down, scrape, paint and new bearings/belts, slip clutches and blades. I had no trouble getting everything from my local NH dealer - they carry Woods here.

We've had several over the years. Most are very usable and reliable, currently have a Land Pride and it has been the best, do not buy cheap, it may bite you.

how about a nearly new one in NC. I have a Bushhog 60 in in nearly new condition for 1/2 new price

I've used a regular rotary mower just gear down and run the engine up and with a sharp blade it will almost be as good as a finish mower.
Keep an eye on Craigslist and do an expanded search time can be your friend.

I've had three Woods finish mowers. All bought used, and brought up to running condition much cheaper than new. I've got a 6' belly mower, with an AC "C" tractor for sale now. I now use a 7' three point hitch rear discharge on a modern tractor. My body doesn't appreciate the antiques so much any more!

Woods are bulletproof and alot of the older 5' or 6' RM series are out there for sale now. The tapered roller bearings never wear out if greased. I have a 6' RM306 in good cond. if you're interested for $300.

Yeah Nick, that's a good 5hr trip from me but I'd be willing to meet at some point closer in your direction. Let me know, if not -- there are always some of these for sale on CL. Email should be open.

I have a RM 660 on my Jubilee. If I let
the grass get too tall I'm in first
gear and it a hand full.

I was told, not 100% sure, that Woods
no longer makes a side discharge finish
mower.

I love my mower.
