Another Why?

Why do people post ads on here and Craigslist and then refuse to respond to emails. I understand the scammers like to jump on there but they are easily sorted out. Just find it curious that someone would use this media but refuse to use email.

The need to resist advances in technology. So far as I know, my younger brother, who was showing me pictures on his cellphone, before I knew how to do it, was refusing to be pushed into email, and is still not using it.

I run a few CL ads.
There is a box you can check that says no emails for this ad. I always check that box.
I'm not interested in answering a bunch of emails from people who are just goofing around.
I figure if they are serious they will call and I can get a sense of their carachter that way.
If they don't want to call I figure they're not interested.

You may be losing out on some sales, if I am reading CL or any other adds at say after midnight, do you want me to call about an add? What I like about email I can send when I am able and you can answer when you are able to.

I looked for a couple of years for a good IH 1086. In November I saw an ad for one on CL that looked good and called. It turns out it was the son of the family that does all of the local butchering. He was at the plant so could I call back - sure (I could hardly hear him over squalking turkeys anyway). I tried for a week including emails. I never did get a response. I just had a bunch of chickens butchered last week. I drove up in the yard and there sat the tractor with a for sale sign still on it.

Too bad. I found one I really like somewhere else.

1. If you called at mid night my phone would be off!!! 2.I would not answer email at mid night!!!

I've gotten so used to no replies from C-List sellers that I don't even think about it any more. I don't text, but I send emails or leave phone messages. Probably get no reply at least three out of four times.

I have a email account.
The only way I use it is if we talk on the phone and we agree that you will send me something in a email.
Like the bank sent me loan papers for my new truck in a email. I signed them and sent them back. Takes minutes rather than days.
Other than that I go in a trash all the emails about once every month.

If you want to talk to me..... Call Me on the phone.

Sorry, but some of us won't/can't do that.

I've worn hearing aids for 40+ years. Telephones are very difficult for me. Not impossible, but much too difficult to ask a question about some missing info in an ad that is of interest.

If the price, age, hours, location, model number/name, horsepower etc are not in the ad and emails aren't answered, there is no way I'm a potential buyer.

Thanks at least I'm not the only one years of listening to machinery running and there's one level I can't here at. It's nice to get good direction and the best way is text

I am not an adopter of high tech stuff but if your going to be successful in marketing things in these days an times than you will get many more sales and responses using email, phone, and text. An example is text. I have a flip phone so texting is not quick at all but it is nice to get numbers on things that way. I often do not hear things on the phone. This happened just this week. A fellow had a strong German accent and was saying his road name of Buncombe Road. I was hearing Vulcome road. There are roads of both names in the next county over, just in the opposite ends of the county. So I drove and extra 60 miles because of this misunderstanding. I finally got him to have his son text me his address. Drove right to him then.

All of my devises have this wonderful ability???? Simply DELETE anything I do not want to look at or listen too.

PS Many of the younger generation do not like to talk on the phone. My youngest is that way. HE does not have his voice mail active and will not return missed calls unless you text him. It annoys me but that is how he does it. He also sends over 3000 text each month. He and the DIL do not use over a hundred minutes of call time on both their phones combined each month. They text as their main commination medium.

And I figure if no emails you do not want to sell it. I do not use phone for hearing reasons. I do have a captioning phone to be able to read what you are saying if you talk planly enough but most do not. And a present time it is not working and have not yet figured it out to get working. email the words come out as you write them not some gibberish that most messages goun out as on the caption phone.

Have had hearing aids that did not work and audioligist sayd DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on hearing aids will do you no good so how can I use that phone, would you come up with a good answer for that! And I am a wideror and living alone with no kids or brothers or sisters so no one to get to call.

Though I am less paranoid here, I NEVER answer email inquiries from craigslist.

It they are truly interested, they'll call.

Have you tried texting ?

Perhaps it's a regional thing. I've gone to exclusively using email for CL replies and it has greatly filtered out trash text messages. The legitimate interests email and leave a number or ask for mine. People are sending email from their phones too. Seems to be working well.

Even if it's something I want, I won't respond unless there's a phone number. Tried the email response with no answer to many times. Waste of time responding by email.

This right here! I never give out my phone number until I have exchanged a few emails. No one calls during supper, dinner, etc. No one calls half in the bag at midnight wanting to dicker, plus there are many other reasons to not list your number.

Emails are perfect for me.

(quoted from post at 11:34:12 05/01/16) 1. If you called at mid night my phone would be off!!! 2.I would not answer email at mid night!!!

1 If someone calls you at midnight in a family emergency situation or similar and your phone is off, what then?

2 You don't have to answer an email at midnight, you can answer it when you see it in the morning. What could be simpler?

lots of reasons, their computer may be off, they may be at work, if their old they may have to wait for a younger person to visit to read email, my mother never used a computer or an email in her entire life up to her death, but my sister had her a email address, im still trying to figure out why to this day

Have read/heard it all before on here. It is NOT about technology or time of day/night or convenience. There's a lot of info one can get from a phone call that one can't get any other way. Character , tone , demeanor , nationality , honesty and a few others. If, at any time, you are going to have to talk person to person anyway (which should be a requirement for any sale over $ 100) then it may as well be the FIRST call. I've been in the service industry all my life and there is NO substitute for person to person conversation. I've said this before , if you (or a friend/relative) can't or won't call my phone number, I will ,without reservation, consider it a no-sale. Everyone has ,or can get someone to help if needed. Accept for e-bay, I won't sell a carb to someone unless I can talk to them to make sure it is really their problem. Almost impossible to do on e-mail or any text media. And on e-bay, I send with shipment any/all pertinent info about carb AND also my real name and phone # if they need it. Just today got a call from buyer in Minnesota to let me know it worked flawlessly. Priceless! E-mail.....not so much. Has served me well for a lot of years and none of the negatives.

Because if you have an internet ad you get tons of scammer emails. My ad said use cell phone only and I still get inquiries by email which I ignore. I can't think of any way to sort them out so I delete them all.

I usually put in my ad no texts too but will make exceptions. I sold a complete 8 speed w/lpto for a 3000 about a year ago to a fellow from Michigan.
He sent me a text asking about it and I just replied, Please Call.
He replied back that he was born deaf.
We made the deal via text and he came and got it the next weekend. Real nice fellow and I'm glad I replied to him.
For normal stuff though, texting is a lot more messing around than talking.

When people ask question after question via text or email it takes a lot more time to respond to than a quick phone call. Most scams are email and Ive seen a few from text. I like to talk to someone before driving with money to someone I dont know.

In addition to the other reasons mentioned here, another reason for no response to email may be that the person's email provider sees the incoming message as spam and either moves it to the junk folder or deletes it before it even gets to the person with the ad. This is because CL uses a forwarding scheme to obscure both parties' real email addresses. I've been a victim on both ends of this -- emails that I sent were never received (or received long after the fact) because they went to the seller's junk mail, and email replies sent to me weren't received for the same reason.

Personal opinion: I prefer to make first contact via email, and I prefer people contact me via email.
[list:1c04998f5f][*:1c04998f5f]Email is typically much more convenient for both parties, not requiring immediate attention or scheduling. Many times I've been interested in things being sold by someone who works odd hours/days and trying to find a window when we're both available for even a simple phone call has been difficult.
[*:1c04998f5f]Often I'll come across something while browsing CL during a lull at work and don't have time (or the privacy) for a non-work phone call, but it's easy to send a quick email to at least let the seller know I'm interested. I don't want something to get away from me just because I can't drop everything to make a call.
[*:1c04998f5f]Although I'm not deaf like another person mentioned, I do have trouble hearing on the phone, whereas email is perfectly clear.
[*:1c04998f5f]Sometimes the item I'm interested in isn't local and I'd rather not make an hour-long drive just to see (for example) how bad some rust is, so it's kind of stupid to call just to ask for pictures via email.[/list:u:1c04998f5f]
I'm with others who don't quite get why people are tech-savvy enough to post CL ads but then don't want to deal with emails. I read and respect what others have said, but IMHO if you're going to post something electronically, you should be willing to respond electronically. Saying that if someone isn't able to call means he's not serious about buying is no different from me saying as a buyer that if the seller won't respond to email then he's not serious about selling. Everyone has different needs and preferences. If you're serious about selling something, I'd think you'd want to leave every avenue of communication open. :?
