International 7110 MFWD question

Hello, I've got a International 7110 mfwd as one of my loader tractors. I don't use this tractor much as it is kind of a spare for loading feed and manure during the busy season. Anyways the front wheel assist doesn't seem to want to work. As soon as you hit the switch to engage it it will work for a brief second then quit. I was going to dig into that a little bit and see if I can get it working. With it coming on like that for a brief second, I'd like your guys' opinion/experience. I'm thinking of putting a new switch on for a start? What do you guys think it could be? Thanks

Put a test light on the wire leading to the mechanism controlling the Drive. If the light stays on when it quits working you know it is at least beyond that point. Do not throw parts at a fault. You will uild possible faults into it as you go. Jim

That sounds strange because- it was explained to me- that drive is normally, mechanically (spring loaded) engaged. It requires power to disengage it. I don't know if that means both elec. and hyd., but I assume so.

If that's all correct, then simply an unhooked switch ought to give you full time MFWD. But I suppose there are many components to the system. The switch probably powers a solenoid, which controls a valve, some of which could stick? Maybe the spring could break? It just seems to me that if the system is as I was told, it would be constantly trying to engage, chattering, or some such, if there's a fault in there somewhere.

The front wheel assist is indeed tension applied and hydraulically released. No power to solenoid would leave it engaged all the time. I would unhook electric first and try, then unhook hydraulic(plug if necessary) and try. I would bet it is worn only pulls for a bit then starts to slip. Always had to start the engines on those when working on front wheels to disengage them if you wanted to rotate the wheels. I understand the first 100 were opposite but never saw or heard of one being around.
