OT - new arthritis meds

I have fairly well run the race with arthritis meds since onset at 27. I've done everything from Injections to chemo drugs. I know I'm on a road to crippled, especially farming - the doctor said I should be doing something other than farming. A little late now!

He gave me Otezla to try. Has anyone used that? Apparently it has a nasty habit of jacking up your stomach and causing headaches. I am kind of headache prone as it is so he says it's a shot in the dark but we will try. He's already started the paperwork through insurance for a new injectable so I guess nothing lost. Sure would be nice to take a pill and stop this progression, though.

That is one I can say Ive never tried, mainly because my rheumatologist said it wont do anything for me. Ive built up such an immunity to pain meds, not much works for me anymore. Had a buddy who use to visit from another state and would bring me some, uh, unconventional medication, and that really seemed to help a great deal!

What else have you been on?

OK, so this is a stretch but hear me out. My border collie is 14 and has terrible arthritis. Best I've done for him is acupuncture. He leaves moving like a dog half his age. Yes, lots and lots of people say its all hot air and hokum but I maintain that a dog doesn't know the placebo affect. A dog knows if they hurt or not. So, you can put this down as worthless, crackpot information or not. I won't campaign one way of the other. I will tell you straight up that acupuncture helps my dog get relief without adding chemicals to his system. Hate to see anyone or anything suffer. Good luck.

I do both chiropractic and acupuncture. My rheumatologist told me to do whatever I wanted if it made me feel better. They both really do, although my movement is getting pretty limited in some joints. I've had acupuncture do some amazing things. I think all of her herbal medicines are hooey but she can do a lot with those little needles.

I've done about 8 of the injectables that you see advertised on TV. Some worked great but I built up an allergy to them within 18 months (Enbrel) and others never worked (Symponi).

I have had a lot of problems with Gout, which is a form of arthritis. My daughter is an RN who doesn't like drugs at all. She won't give her kids antibiotics. She talked me in to going to a nutritionist, who gave me some herbal supplements. She told me to take the stuff daily and if I had symptoms of Gout double up on the dosage. I usually have a sever bout about every 2 months that last about 10 days to 2 weeks . It hit me this week. I got up Monday morning and could hardly walk, It hurt something awful. I took the "witches brew" and it was gone by bed time, rather than lasting 2 weeks. I think I am a believer; if it is mental, that?s fine; I think I am going to stick with it.
