I got to chisel plow today! Never done that before. Always mow board plowed before. BIL and nephew were having all kinds of trouble with stuff breaking so they ask if I could help. Darn sure faster! CaseIH 2394 that I've run before both with a disk and a PTO driven combine.

Yea, I got a coulter/ chisel plow 3 years ago, did the bean ground first year, did 1/4 of the corn ground as well the second year, asked the wife if
she wanted to moldboard or chisel the stalks last fall and she said chisel, so we didnt do any moldboard last year. She does a lot of the tillage
for me, so what makes her happy is what we go with.....

I like to chisel really like it when it just starts to snow
in the fall and a little dirt and stubble sticks to the
tires

"trouble with stuff breaking so they ask if I could help"

So how much stuff did you help them break? LOL

Started daughter driving brother's 1470 Case with chisel plow when she was 13. She was really proud of herself for being able to drive the tractor 14 hours a day. Brother and our son each drove a combine; when they finished the last field of small grain, she was only 2 hours behind them with the chisel plow.

However, if the A/C or the radio quit working, she stopped immediately!

Back when I was farming and raising wheat, I finally started using a chisel plow on my wheat ground instead of a moldboard plow.

Same result, a whole lot faster, and no dead furrows or back furrows to bounce around on.

I can understand, though, before chemicals came onto the scene moldboard plows were necessary for weed control.

I have pretty much went to only chisel plowing due to cost, I do still turn it over every 5-10 years though as CP does not loosen and mellow the ground like moboarding

LOL good question!

None actually. They have an auto feed system from a silo to feed beef with. First thing they broke the auger on that. Then a couple of new cows broke their ties in the barn. Nephew didn't get to start drilling oats until about 2PM. That put them several hours behind the power curve while my BIL was still working on stuff at home. They really need to go to bagging silage or using a bunker but the BIL won't spend the money. BIL took over the chisel plow about 10PM. Don't know how late he worked.
