hydraulic valve

I'm planning on adding hydraulics to my Minneapolis Moline U. I ran across these at the Le Sueur swap meet for a good price. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with them. On the side of each it says Gre-sen.
I'm assuming they are open center valves, with the in and out ports on the sides and the two ports on top going to the cylinder. Would that be correct?
Also, does anyone know why the one on the right has an allen screw near the vertical port?

Don't know what the screw's for,but take the plastic plugs out of the holes in the sides and see if you can blow through them with the lever in the center neutral position. If you can, they're open center. Top holes would go to the cylinder, yes.

The are Gresen 300 or 400 series valves.

Hex plug plugs port factory used to drill an internal passage.

Note "300" model number in photo.

I have exactly the same valves on my loader. I wd like to change the O rings inside.
Is it possible to pull the valve plunger out by removing the slotted screw ?

Thanks in advance.

I believe you'll have to pull the cap off the front too. Might be a screw, might be a snap ring holding it from sliding out the back.

I took a closer look at mine. The one on the right with the allen screw is a 300 and the other one is a 400. So if I'm reading Bob's info correctly, I need to use the 400 in order to get two way hydraulics.
Thanks for the help!

"I believe you'll have to pull the cap off the front too. Might be a screw, might be a snap ring holding it from sliding out the back. "

Nope, remove lever, take off back cover and spool will slide right out that back.

Getting it back in without cutting the new rings takes a little more care, thought, and LUBE!

Just as someone below said to blow through it to see if its open center, take the test one step further. While blowing air through it, pull the lever back and air should come out of one of the top holes, then push forward and it should blow out of the other. If it works that way, it will work for 2 way hydraulics.
