Dropped nut down 8N distributor--now what?

Dropped one of those tiny nuts down into the distributor (side-mount) on my 8N.
Any ideas on how to retrieve it?

(I think it may already be in the gears, as the distributor wants to twist when I crank it over...)

Thanks much!

The "nut" CANNOT get into the gears.

It is jamming the centrifugal advance beneath the breaker plate. Remove two screws and disconnect the copper strip between the low tension terminal and the points and left the breaker plate up and out.

HOPEFULLY nothing is damaged in there!

Don't you have one of those retractable magnets that slides together to look like an ink pen? Any excuse to buy new tools. This is a good one.

good time to get in there and clean and lube the advance mechanism. 99% of the tractors I've bought needed it.

Dumb question, well maybe not. Why in the world would you have tried to crank it over BEFORE asking questions here? This place is loaded
with knowledge. Ask questions first before you cause youself more, pain, frustration and money.

(quoted from post at 14:51:05 04/29/16) Can't you just pull the distributor ?

Well, yes, WHY NOT?

At this point WHY waste an opportunity to make things even worse and get the distributor hopelessly out of time, and for no good reason?

Another CLASSIC example of "If It Ain't Broke We'll Fix It 'Til it is!"
