I have a JD 243 head , will it fit both the 300 picker and a filed chopper , like a 3800 series? I've been told they are hard to find if not even rare. just don't know about it , its in darn good shape. would be interested in getting a 300 picker to put behind it.

It might be rare, I have seen only a few in my time, the 243 would have only been made for a pt chopper or husker! To fit it on a chopper they must have an adapter plate? I have only seen one for a chopper at a sale, they mount on differently then the huskers, the huskers are like the combines. When I went to 30" corn I just narrowed up the 244 that was on the 300.

Yes they are somewhat rare but they are not in high demand. They could be used on a 38,3800,3960 or 3970 forage harvester with the adapter plate. We make snaplage with our 3940 using a 244 cornhead. Deere did not recommend it but it works fine, you have to watch turning or you could run a snoot into a rear tire. Many people who go to narrow rows get a six row planter and then a 343 head for their forage harvester or 300 picker. In my area your head would have to be nice to bring $800. The best way to sell it would be to put it on a 300 picker then sell the outfit. The 244 heads bring $3-400 just for parts here. Tom
