Value of 1972 Farmall 544???

I'm looking to sell a tractor that my dad left to me in his Will and I need to know how to find out it's value. It's a 1972 Farmall 544. I don't know how many hours it has on it but it's in good shape (it has $1,900 in damage from a wind storm where it's being stored but I would either get it fixed or deduct that from the sales price). Does anyone know where I can get an accurate value (i.e., someone who specializes in valuing old tractors)? Thanks.

It depends on the paint, model, tires and a bunch of things. A real nice row crop may go close to $8K, but the average is closer to $5,000. It really depends on the tractor and how much someone else wants it.

A couple years ago I sold a 544 diesel hydro (trans) wide front field ready with a model 2000 loader, like new tires and decent repaint for $6500.

A friend of mine says he has some sort of book he refers to that has tractor prices, condition, etc. I don't know if there is something similar to a NADA or blue book for tractors? Next time I see him I'll ask him about it.

Don't think youll find a buyer that's going to give you more than scrap price for it. It needs $1900 worth of work. What type of work, and where did you come up with that figure? Im just trying to shoot straight, I don't think its worth very much without at least knowing what the damage is...

Where do you guys come up with everything only being worth scrap price if it has something wrong with it? Probably the mechanicals are fine the engine alone would be worth
4X or 5X scrap price at the price scrap is these days.

He never said he wanted $5000 just wants to know what he can get and even if it needs $2000 worth of work there is a whole lot of ground above scrap price to get to $5000.Scrap price would be around $500-$600 for that tractor these days I'll take a
trailer load at that price. And the $1900 is having it fixed retail probably do it easily for 1/2 that.

A place to start would be with auctioneers close to the tractor's location.
Three quotes should be adequate to determine fair market value. Sorry for your
loss and good luck selling tractor.

Just going by what he said and not talking to him but I'm assuming he's being truthful
I'd easily go $1200-$1500 a good running engine is worth that.So thats 3X scrap price.
A good example is a White 2-70 w/loader I have now, bought it with a trans problem for $1800,sold the rear wheels and tires for $900 and the loader for $1000 has a great running engine and a 3 speed hydra whats left is easily worth $4000 to me.I'll probably keep the rest of the tractor until I need parts for my Oliver 1650 or find a nice Oliver tractor with a bad engine either way I could care less what it would cost to fix it as long as the parts are worth the $$$$.

How many 40 year old 544s do you want for your 5000 figure , In fact think I can make a little money selling you some at 3 thousand.. I seriously doubt that the tractor is worth fixing. He could do a rrund says and sell it for parts of salvage and keep his 1900 and probably be away ahead. Running ones at auction around here usually go for 2,000 to 3,000 at most.

I bought my 544 utility for $3,000 a few years ago. It's in good condition, but has high hours.

Craigslist is a good place to find the going price for items. Use Searchtempest to search over a large area.
