4020 load control shaft bushings seals

so I replaced the load control shaft bushings and seals in my 4020 power shift last weekend. They were leaking pretty bad. When I got the old seals out, I found someone
had silicone sealed them in. The races both looked scarred too. I assume this was not a factory thing but a home fix. So, I set the new ones both in with sealant as well.
The bushings I set in with grease. Make sense? Tractor has about 6500 hours on it, says the tact. How much time can I expect on the new bushings and seals? I might plow a
4 acre hay field every 2 years or so (3 bottom). Snow blower in the winter. Otherwise, I don't use the 3 point hitch much.

Some of those tractors had a problem with leaking pretty often. Some guys here were machining a groove behind the seal and installing an o-ring and that worked for much longer. I put a couple in like that but don't remember exactly but seems the rubber ring needed to fit close up behind the seal.

You need to add shims to take all of the side to side play out or your new seals will not last long. If your shaft has any marks from the original bushing it should have been replaced as well.If you do all of it(new bushings with o-rings,new seals and remove side play)and do it correctly it will last for many years. On high hour tractors I often replace the bushings in the drawbar carrier and the front pin and bushing as well. I recently did an early 4020 that still had the old style bushings in it. When redone you should not have to work on them for years even with lots of use. Tom

Well might last a day or two or than again for years and years ? no one knows. If your bushings were the aftermarket type with an o-ring in them the odds of lasting longer just went WAY up.
