International 584

I have had trouble posting to the forum.

I have the above tractor and have a number of issues with it currently.

1.Emergency brake, just works, I understand that if its worn out then its big dollars to fix, is there an adjustment that would tighten it up the handle is right at its limit.

2.Bakes, up until a few weeks ago these have been great, they now go straight to the floor, I have bleed them and they are ok for the day but left over night they go to the floor again. I understand this could be a couple of things causing this, either the seals in the rear are worn out or a tube in the oil reservoir may have come adrift?

3. A while ago when I turn the tractor off the lights on the dashboard continued to stay on, I thought nothing of this and remove the Positive battery lead, thinking it was a faulty ignition switch. The other day while parked across the driveway blocking it, it would not start.

I turned the ignition and can hear the solenoid clicking but it does nothing more. after turning to jump start it, still nothing, after wiggling the leads and connections it started, I did see a puff of smoke come from the earth lead. For a couple of weeks it has been starting fine, still with the lights on the dash coming up.

Once again it wont start, with the same symptoms of clicking from the solenoid. Before I start replacing things randomly, can someone give me some pointers to confirm what the problem might be or what testing I can do?

Sorry for posting the message like this, however it would not allow me to post it in one go... It kept saying there was a special character that was not allowed to be used...

Look real hard at your bat. cables . be sure they are clean, and tight . May be add an
extra ground for the starter as well. Your hydraulic brakes use the common hytran ,
and in these tractors it gets hot. Not all tran oil is the same , some can't take
prolonged heat and break down, use CaseIh HyTran, and this can solve your problems .

Hi, does it have a no start safety switch on the clutch? These switches can be troublesome.

After you bleed the brakes and let it sit for a day, press one brake at a time and see if one or both brakes go to the bottom.
If you press both brakes at once the equalizer will try to equalize the pressure between both brakes and if one has bled down the
oil from the good one will be diverted to the bad one. Check to see if it has the plastic fluid reservoir up under the dash.

No the safety switch was disabled prior to me taking ownership.

I'll try your suggestion with the brakes. Do you know what size spanner the bleed nipples are?

Thanks Bruce.

I was thinking it might be the leads, I have tried bypassing them by using a set of jumper leads without any luck.

I was suspicious of the positive lead as I was taking it on and off all the time, so I cleaned the connector up and battery terminal and it has not helped. The puff of smoke from the earth lead was a suspect, but again I tired by passing it with a jumper lead without any luck.

My brother has a 1997 CIH 3230 which is same as your 584 but two generations newer. It has a Lucas starter on it and he has
replaced the starter solenoid twice in the last 10 years but it is his loader tractor and is running almost every day.

I had what may be the same brake problem
on my 6060 AC. The brake petals were not
coming all the way to the top. Then the
funky master cylinder equalizer let the
petal go the floor. A little oil and a
tarp strap fixed it. Have you cleaned ALL
connections? .

Hi All, so the starting issue would appear to be lack of charge in the battery, the last time I used it I had the lights on fro over an hour and as I remove the positive terminal from the battery each time I stop I guess it was not charging correctly as the positive could not have had a good connection.

Still having a problem with the dash lights staying on after its switched off, I wriggle the wiring loom under the dash and the lights flicker, so I'm thinking perhaps there is a lose wire that is touching something it should not be.

Now the tractor is going I tried bleeding the brakes, the left hand brake has bleed great however the right hand one will not. I have left the bleed nipple open for 10minutes and nothing, the other side took probably 2-3 minutes.

I do not have a plastic reservoir under the dash, I have as per attached photo.

The fluid about is me removing the pipes to see if there is any fluid in them.
Any thoughts?
