I've noticed in some tractor books Oliver 1600,1800,1900,1650,1750,1850,1950,had various sized tires front and rear. Was there a standard gear ratio front to rear,or did thy change according to what size tires were used? Thanks to any replies.

The Nebraska test report number 872 for the Oliver 1950 4WD states that "During the drawbar runs it became apparent that the gear ratio in the front axle was not correct for this tractor. Another front axle, with a more suitable gear ratio, was installed and the test continued". This would indicate that there were various axle ratios at least for this model and one could assume the same for other models as well.

In order for FWA to work properly in helping to turn, the front has to turn just a little faster than the rear.
