JD Z225 Died today

Remember that Z225 I was bragging on last night? Well it died today, I fired it up and mowed a small area, then went back to shed. It started to just idle down on it's own then died and wouldn't start again. With a little starting fluid it would try but never fired off. I am thinking 885 hours is about all she wrote.

885 hours is all she wrote? No I can't believe that unless it was really abused, other than that prolly something fixable..

Mowed already? What part of the country do you live in? Don't be hexing the rest of us by mowing already. Mow once means mowing twice a week until Summer heats it up. I saw you posted a day or few ago asking what kind of zero-turn to get. I picked up one last year for around the house, but not exactly a zero-turn. A '94 Deere 425 with a 60" deck. Its all wheel steer. Too small for me to use, but the family can.

First Deere Zero Turn...Prototype I figure.

I have a riding mower with that engine. Funniest thing happened to me with it. Same scenario, was mowing, had to get off to move something out of the way. It died, not to run again that day. I did the usual things, it's about ten years old or so. Finally thought it was the fuel pump. I went to the parts place here in Lubbock where a very VERY knowledgeable lady owns the place. She told me she would sell me a pump, and whatever else I thought would fix it, then she would tell me what's wrong and that fix wouldn't cost anything. Not wanting to be taken for a fool, I asked if we could do this her way first.

There is a small solenoid on the bottom of the carb/fuel bowl with a molex type plug and two wires going to it. She says unplug it, clean it out (get all the grass and dirt out of it), plug it back in and it will run just fine. I did, and it did. It's a fuel valve that shuts off with the ignition, common to all of the 18.5hp Briggs engines and a common issue.

Maybe your problem, maybe not.

i highly doubt there is much wrong with it. that not many hrs on a briggs have several out of shop on customers in the 3000 hr range and still being used in there custom mowing business

never stopped mowing this winter... So mild that all the winter grasses like rye and others kept right on growing. Yard was like a jungle every two weeks... Normally use around 50 gallons of gas a year mowing the yard, this year is almost double. I take 5 - 5 gallon jugs in at a time for mower gas. Try to use it up in 3 Months or less.

ETHYNOL gum up, Don't use too much starting fluid. It will wash the impreginated oil out of the cylinder walls. Clean the gunk out of the carb.

That's odd. I wouldn't expect a B&S to do that. I have a Kohler on my JD rider that bends at least two push rods a summer. Did it from day one and still does it. I really dislike the Kohler command engine. The rest of the machine seems solid. I guess when this one dies it will get a Nonda from HF.
