Valve stem thread size

What is the type of thread and size of a rear tractor tube valve stem. Where a plastic or brass nut fits on .Need to clean up the threads, so need to buy a die to fit. Seems to be some odd size.

Look on Tool Talk from a week ago. Big thread on this . I provided a link for the tire tool. The size is .305"x 32TPI. It is odd because it was invented in 1844 [someone posted] At that time there were no standards for machinists. Search tire valve tool and get a tap/die combo thing for about 5 bucks.

I think you are talking about the larger threads on the stem, the ones that hold it in the rim, right? The end of a valve stem is 7.7 mm X 32 tpi. You need a precision measuring device and a thread pitch gauge to really determine what you have. Mine is either 5/8 or 14 mm and pretty fine. You could probably take a 3 cornered file and repair the threads if you get it out of the rim. I have broken off a couple cutting brush and just replace them with 5/8 rubber ones because my tires are tubeless and I never intend to put fluid in them.

I don't know where guys are getting the 7.7 mm then combining it with a standard 32 Threads Per Inch. The stem spec was .305 inch diameter. 7.7 mm is .3003 inch almost 5 thou difference. But you are correct that is not what he is looking for anyhow.

If you can find a tire shop near you, you may be able to borrow theirs or purchase one from them. I have one I need to do that on as well.

This is it.

I haven't measured one yet, but I read it on the net so it must be true! I will go and mike one this morning, but I bet they vary depending on which part of china they come from!
