Most of us are always busy , and think by Sheer WILL , OUR bodies will propel us thru anything like a tank in all adverse conditions ,. GUYS YOU MUST get This LOOKT after,,. last time I had that done was in 2003 , and my 1st time too ,they told me it ought to be done every 5 yrs or sooner since the Dr. found "normal" polips ,.,. Finally got it done today, The endoscopy showed a tite esoghagus....... a little honing and we are good now .. lol ,..BUTT, on the BOTTOM End .AZ luck would have it. more polips up in there , and there is about a foot of my intestine that is not rite , requiring surgery ,, MRI scheduled Monday , And More than likely some removal work to follow soon ,.. .. last summer I started having a bad taste in my mouth when I woke from sleeping ../Old family folklore , always said that is the beginning of something wrong if that taste continues over 30 days,..

Please tell me they didn't use the same camera for both procedures.

ep, bottom first, then top. Hence the bad taste

01gentdc,

About 4 years ago I also had a bad taste,
it was cancer in both lungs the worst one
was smoking not the smaller on.

After Chemo and radiation I'm clear, no new growth
just scar tissue.

Check that out also

True Story An old family friend and member of school board where my kids attended had an appointment with my son. Son said should have rectal examine due to age etc. Fellow said not just no h--- no. Son dropped the thought for a bit. Fellow knowing we had a relative new John Deere asked him if he had hired a guy to fall chisel farm after corn. Liking his work so well asked guy if he would work down all ground , even planting beans. After planting in discussion fellow admitted he had never checked engine oil. Asking patient what he would do in that scenario, waiting for a decent answer. Patient responded with vigor he would fire the sob, nobody should abuse good equipment in that manner. Doctor son replied, bend over Wayne were going to check the oil!!! A cancerous but small polyp was found. That according to Wayne and my son likely extended his life by many years.Wayne became an advent est around his friends for rectal exams.

I was scheduled for my regular 15 year colonoscopy along with my wife. She told the pre interviewer that she was having some acid reflux and would like an upper GI also done. I mentioned that I was having a little trouble swallowing and would also like an upper GI. They said fine, you both can get the blue-light special. Long story short, wife was okay, but the Dr. found cancer on my esophagus. By the time I had a Pet-scan,it had spread to some lymph nodes in my chest. That meant surgery was not an option, but six weeks of chemo and fifteen radiation treatments shrunk the tumor on the esophagus so I can now eat solid foods.
I started four more weekly chemo treatments today with a cat-scan in six weeks to see how the treatment is working ..
Do Not Neglect Regular Check-Ups!!!!

And make sure you are not first in line....otherwise, the camera is cold...And that will pucker up your cheeks worse than sitting on a cold steel tractor seat!

When I had mine 2 years ago they sedated me and put me to sleep for the procedure...never felt a thing. Worst part was drinking the prep the night before.....which really is not that bad looking back at what I have been through for prostate cancer....which really is not that bad considering what others go thru for other cancers....

At 50 I told Dr no to colonoscopy. At 51 my wife badgered me into it and a good thing she did. That year cost me a foot of intestine. Been 9 months and still not 100% yet.

I was smelling weird smells for a couple of years before I had a physical and was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Not sure if there was any correlation or not....but last year I had weird smells again and sure enough my psa started to climb and I am having to do radiation therapy now. I haven't found any other cases like this on the internet but thought it worth mentioning.

Had my psa shoo up in yearly exam, went in and had biopsy and ultrasound. and yes I have cancer of the prostrate, but that is not the big problem. Now three weeks after the surgery, inspection I cannot P . Having to wear a cather and thinking I am going to have to have the prostrate operation quicker than I originally thought. They had originally said it was the slow spreading less invasive and I had a year or too before I needed to do anything. Kind of at loss now what to do.

I feel for ya...two weeks with cathy after surgery...but can P like a racehorse now! Hopefully radiation won't screw that up!

Doctor wants me to have a colonoscopy and have put him off because I had one at age 50 and was the most pain full test I have ever went through.

there was no pain other than the I v needle they put in my hand ,, get it done before you cannot turn around the damage,.,. if you have smoked , moderate drinker ,, got cancer in family ,,,.then you are like me ,, highly vulnerable

I have never drank or smoked in my life time. My sister had cancer and they talked into operation and the cancer went wild after they opened her up. She only lasted a week and they told if she didn't have operation she had 2 years.

I've had several, they get easier, the stuff they make you drink gets easier to take. BE SURE you google Dave Barry's story aobut colonoscopy! He also says, best way to drink the stuff is cut it with vodka...

Better than dying a slow miserable death from cancer. I was stuck in a recovery ward for 6 days with dozens of cancer patients. Most were diagnosed too late and were either dying or now fitted with colostomy bags .
The place sounded like the first level of Dante's Inferno. Non stop weeping and wailing from patients and family members.

I have had a lot of bowel issues over the last 2 years. I have had 2 colonoscopies and 2 endoscopie and all they found was 2 "normal" polyps. Still have issues with the bowels and they found that because of my diabetes the paqncrist ( cant spell well) was not sending the correct amount of enzimes the bowels. So now on another med 3 times a day. The scopes were a piece of cake they put me to sleep didn't feel a thing. But the prep the day and night before was HORRIBLE!!!!!

I will tell my experiences with colonoscopies and the need for them. I think there may be some tendency for colon cancer in my family. I lost a favorite uncle due to colon cancer. He did not have colonoscopies and it was tragic watching him go. He should have lived many years more.

My wife and I have had colonoscopies over the years and they found polyps in us several times, but they were benign at the time. The procedure usually uses propofol (comically known as milk of amnesia) and you are out like a light and waken with no aftereffects and no pain. The recovery room sounds like the campfire scene from Blazing Saddles.

In addition and this is from legitimate research. My wife began taking turmeric capsules after we read about the much lower incidence of colon cancer in India. The anticancer agent is the curcuminoids from the curry dishes that predominate the culture. I think she has been taking the turmeric daily ever since her previous colonoscopy.
She had her last colonoscopy less than a year ago and they found no polyps.
I have started taking the turmeric as a result. Quack quack quack herbal medicine is one thing, but the results from my wife's exam is not a single anecdotal sample but an addition to what we already knew, and at the personally impacting level.

As previously commented on. I forgot to add that the prep solutions have gotten better over the years but are still time consuming, but cathartic. It is a far far better thing to do than the alternative risk. Few other cancers can be detected so easily before they turn and go body global.

Tomorrow will be my last chemo treatment for esophgas cancer that was found in nov time well tell if they found it in time my advice don't delay
