Farmers Farm

But, new rules are here for produce growers, and expected to ramp up as the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) for the first time regulates the growing of fresh produce under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FSMA spans over 500 pages and is extremely complex. Part of this complexity begins when growers try to determine if they are exempt or qualify under the rule.
Signed by the President back in 2011, this all about food safety, record keeping & traceability, no matter what size your farm is. Like healthcare reform, it's all tied into your tax returns, and information retrieved from your filings is how USDA Officials come knocking on your door to see if your in compliance with mandated record keeping. F.Y.I.

It's difficult to comply or even know how to, it was passed as a blank check, i.e. once it passes we will write the rules. As I'm sure Loren the case guy can tell you we in the maple industry have been getting various answers of if we had to register or not, finally they said that we do, but still not a lot of solid standards and information directly related to maple

I'm not sure, but from what I understand more compliance is going to be mandated if you are producing food for human consumption, and targets more of the smaller & specialty crop producers.

From what I understand, certain crops are exempt at this time, or if your farm income is below $25,000, but I think you still might have to register. I do not know about penalties, or if this applies to G.A.P. certified farms.

Been that way for is farmers of any type or size the past few years.

Wait until they get that Waters of the USA deal figured out and on paper. We will all be in a world of hurt.....

Then the plan they hope to pass next, well if you live in any red area on this map you are expendable, the wildlife is more valuable than you are..... Good luck to us all.....

Not much room left on that map eh?
We can all take comfort, however, that being a UN effort it will be about as successful as anything else the UN tries to do.

I can't believe that WOTUS has gotten as far as it has. I believe it will get stopped but man, what brazen land grab.

THIS is exactly why this coming Presidential election is so important, do we continue down the road to full blown socialism or do we stop and reverse this? It's your choice.

I think someday it is going to be mandated by Government to have an agricultural growers license & number. Required by law to pass a test and maintain a license in good standing in order to grow and sell anything produced from your farm. Kind of like a drivers license or CCW/CPL permit that says you are qualified, trained & traced.

When I read something that seems pretty far-fetched, I immediately determine the source. I am not trying to sway anyone's belief in this regard, but all I am suggesting is that you may want to Google "Environmental Perspectives, Inc." BTW, that map is dated 1997.

The guy just down the road, USRt 20 got sighted this summer for selling flowers at his produce stand. He is a county extension agent and wasn't aware of that one. Cost him a $100. The Amish have greenhouses around here and raise mums. He was selling a few of them with his pumpkins and squash. They didn't care about the vegies, but he had to have the permit to sell the mums. This year may be the last for our Maple Syrup operation. We're not going to go thrue all the BS they mandate and all those foolish rules and regs.
