Have an old McCulloch 10-10 automatic. Great powerful old saw.Problem is the clutch is locking up while cutting as
if the chain break were being activated.Did'nt take it apart yet.Anybody have an idea what's going on? It's not the
chain jumping the sprocket I checked that. While on this subject does any one know of a parts source?

I have a rather large stock of old McCulloch parts that I picked up at an auction. Some is labeled by part number, some is just stacked in boxes. If you need anything specific, I might be able to help you. I will never be able to use up all of the parts in this lot.

I may be contacting you. Had a guy bring me an Eager Beaver 2.0. I think, still covered in dirt. Needs a handle.

And how much do you want to know about a 10-10 Mac? Have a couple in my collection and have a pile of 605-610 and 650 Macs. First thing is take the chain cover side off and see what is going on with the clutch. You need to remove the nut with an air gun. Sitting here trying to remember if it is lefthand thread. Think so. The clutch should have a little needle bearing within a plastic cage in there. Grease it up good. If you chewed it all up you need a new one. Any good saw shop should have them for five or six bucks. You might as well change the clutch and drive gear if needed too. Now for parts. Bobs saw shop in Maryland ,NY. 607-638-9297 He is a VERY VERY knowledgeable man on saws. He can hack a lot but when you talk to him try not to sound too dumb. I have gotten a lot of parts from him and he is very good on the prices. Do yourself a favor and go on flebay and buy a copy of the owners manual if you do not have it. There are SEVERAL styles of the 10-10 saw so make sure you get the right one. Look at the ID plate on your saw for all of the information. You will need it when you call Bob!

Couple of years ago when I stopped in to see Bob he was throwing out 2.o +2.2 covers cause he had so many! Call Bob!

Should have read a bit more. You can have a bad locking cam for the brake leaver or there is wear on the stop. Your brake band could be messed up too. Slightly bent somewhere. Talk to Bob and he may just build up and send you a whole new cover assembly. He had all of the brake parts I needed for my 600 saws and he should have everything you need. The stuff I told you about your clutch should still be done as a safety item and wear and tear. You could also have a slightly bent or bowed clutch itself and it is catching. Another thing, are you using a full tank of chain oil per tank of fuel? Your chain could be binding. It should be one to one fuel use to oil use. I would recommend you switch to straight 30wt ND motor oil. The pumps on these saws are vacuum pumps and bar oil is too thick for them. In really cold weather like around freezing I use ATF fluid. One last, when you take the chain off clean the bar. Use a very small thin screw driver and clean out the groove. Bet tons of stuff will come out.

Thanks guys looks like I'm gonna have to take it apart and delve into it further.i will post back later with more

Have you ever been to his shop? It is crammed floor to ceiling with parts that are all organized in drawers, shelfs, and boxes and computerized. And I do mean thousands of parts. You should see his collection of saws in the back. WOW! I have a big collection too but his is even bigger. When you drive past his place you think it is just some ones big green garage. I drove past twice before I realized that it is the place.

The more I thought about this last night I am leaning to the not enough oil side. That one tank of fuel to one tank of oil is a winner. Clean the chain guide in the bar first and use fresh clean 30wt oil. Just might fix ya up. A bent coat hanger is about the right size.

I'm not sure on your problem , tear down is probably in order, but I have owned the exact same saw and I can say that is probably the best saw I ever owned.great power for size pretty bullet proof. not at all like the newer junk they made.

Oh yeah its been great up to now.I want to keep it running cause it's still a good saw and was my dads

You know, if that is a real treasure to you just call Bob and mail it to him. He can do a total job on it and he is darn good! Think about it.
