Haul car on utility trailer

I need to pick up a 56 Belair a long way from home and don't know if it will fit between side rails of my 16'utility trailer. Hopeing someone has hauled a 55 or 56 on a like trailer or can measure their car. Tires on car are stock and hold air. Side rails are 13"above floor and 76" between sides.

I hauled a "68 Chevy (Biscayne?) on a trailer similar. Had to climb out the window because the door hit the trailer fender.

That's tight,73 or 74 inches depending on which specs you are looking at. I'll have to take my time getting it on and off. Boomers on all 4 corners so she don't wig wag side to side. Thanks for the info,I could find most anything in my searching besides width.

My trailer is same size. I have placed 2 or 3, 2x12x16' planks along either inside rail to raise vehicle so its lower body parts are above the rails.

I bought a beautiful 1965 Cadillac in West Virginia and I intended to haul it home on a trailer similar to the one you have but when I saw how close it was going to be to the side rails I changed my mind. I went home and registered the car and drove it home to my place in Northern New York. I am glad I did because it was a great ride. The 56 Chevy may not be in condition for the road so I would suggest that you borrow or rent a car carrier, trailer without side rails, to haul it home. They don't make those great old cars anymore and you would be pretty upset if you damaged it by being cheap and foolish.

If you have a wood floor I would scab some 2 by somethings next to the tires to keep it from walking into the railing. Pay attention to weight on the hitch.

I've hauled several cars on a trailer before but not that model. What sucks is having to climb in and out of the car through an open window because you can't open the door.

Afraid I can't handle the Duke Boy dismount Steve. Figure I'll try steering through driver;s window a little at a time and hold wheel where I need it with a bungee while winching onto trailer. Not pleased that the window will have to remain partly down while on the road but we have clear weather predicted this week.
Hey 2under,afraid I can't afford a driver but I'm so pumped that if it were road ready I would certainly drive it home. I can't believe how much"Tri-Three"Chevys are worth now days. I had one when I met my wife and traded it long ago. I had almost forgot about it but 50 years later and the wife comments every time she see's one so I decided to try buying another. Been sniffing the tires for two years so to speak but never made a serious attempt to buy until this one came along. I'll let ya'll know if the wife act's frisky when we take a cruze,if so,there might be a run on old cars. Thanks for all the suggestions and specs folks.

What about the length? If you have side rails you won't be able to over hang the body past the deck.Especially if you have a gate that comes up in the back. That's a big car!!

it will fit but that about all, assuming you have detachable loading ramps, you can either climb out the window once its on the trailer or use a handy skinny kid to help load, option 2 would be to park with the trailer very slightly uphill then winch the car on , steering thru the open window, then hope for clear driving with no rain to get it home, if you use lumber to raise the car up so the door will open be sure to attach the lumber to the trailer floor, also be sure you tie it down correctly and with at least 4 chains and boomers go to the axle and front lower a frames, if you attach to the car frame and hit a bump ect it can cause enough suspension movement to disengage the tie down, not good!
