Can you tap JB weld?

I think I may have cracked a case on a JD Gator that holds the fuel shut off solenoid. When I was tightening it, I heard a crack. It is tight enough for the system to work but I am concerned. I do not want to buy a $130 case.

Can I fill the hole with JB Weld, drill and tap?

JB weld can be tapped, but depending on where the actual crack is you may not have enough solid material to hold threads. And the thread isn't going to be any stronger than the JB weld which probably isn't as strong as the original. It's still a great product but it has it's limits.

Yes. But there is another product that is better.Called 'thread repair'(something like that).Similar to JB. Get it at NAPA or any auto parts store. The biggest issue is that every thing is CLEAN. Use carb cleaner, either to get it COMPLETELY oil free.

there is one kind of product made by the same people that make JB weld I just bought it and my old brain can't rember the name though. It does exactly what you want though ,clean area mix put it on let it set then drill and tap. You will find it right beside the jb weld and I am not 100% sure but I think it does cary the jb weld name also.
Hope this helps

Probably best to 'cast' the JB Weld around the fitting (a little Vaseline or grease on the fitting is a good release). HTH

Permatex makes a thread rebuilder epoxy. I have used it a time or two with acceptable results. The bigger the thread the more torque it can hold. It will only cure in an an-aerobic environment. You can make it work on the outside of something but have to cover it with plastic wrap or something for it to cure. It works best where there is some sort of thread remnants left. Once I used it to repair stripped threads on the pressure port of a power steering box in the dirt car. It held fine.

Better stuff than JB Devcon and others make stuff that's machineable ect just need to start looking Google will find it.

FIRST thing = get a few ABC fire extinguishers hung aorund, and mounted on all vehicles... don't want surprises.

I think PC-7 is stronger for tapping than the standard JB weld. Takes a lot longer to cure though. Used it to tap a case and bolt down a stator plate bolt on one of my snowmobiles. It seemed to hold alright for several years until I sold the sled. Takes at least 24 hours to cure. I'd let it cure a bit longer.
