Missing O ring

I am installing a water pump on my 96 dodge. The water pump came with a O ring for sealing the pump to the block. It was in a plastic bag, and it just vanished. I spent more time than I should have looking for it. Without the O ring the pump installation stopped. Just glad I am not using my truck this time of the year. I went to Napa, and O'reilly's, no one had the O ring. So I ordered another one. My brother called me tonight. He said he found The O ring between the dual tires on a tractor near my pickup. All I can figure it the wind picked up the plastic bag, or I set the bag on the tires. Will never know. Now I have a extra O ring I will never use. Stan

One good thing, had it been at my place tonight your brother wouldn't have EVER found it, it would have been several counties away!

It's WINDY now and we are supposed to have 65MPH gusts by morning.

To top it off, it's 36?F and thawing and slippery'rn owl snot.

About an hour ago I carried a 5-gallon bucket of water out of the shop and dumped it. As I turned to go back in a wind gust caught me and there was no recovering. I flopped on the ice, wedging my fingers between the "bail" and the bucket.

OUCH, Just plain damned OUCH, I HURT from head to toe. (Oh, yeah, and to "fingers", as well.)

My first stop today would have been a good True Value or Ace store. Years ago I used to go to a local place that manufactured O-rings. They always had the size that I needed - except they always asked how many thousand I needed.

sounds like you've got the same kind of magical force field around your vehicles that I have.

God forbid you drop something into it. You'll find it a week later when it reappears, but that rarely does you any good.

Any nut, bolt, or small part dropped on the floor WILL bounce or roll under the work bench, a wheel, or the vehicle itself. During the search you will find other parts you couldn't find a week ago. But there was the time a snap ring hit the ceiling, the east wall, then went across the floor and bumped my left foot.

All of us have been there toooo many times. I bought both the Metric and The SAE sets of O rings at harbor freight when they go on special now and then. These are the same boxed assortments that your local part place has and will charge you $.70 cents per ring. You gain that cost after half a dozen rings you use and the rest is gravy. They only go so big but have a heck of a lot of sizes. I know yours is bigger but think about it.

I have that same set of O rings from HF. This O ring for the water pump is about 6 inch in diameter. I still can't believe I lost it. Stan
