Some harvest pictures from last fall. It was a relatively smooth harvest.

Hope everyone enjoys!

Looks a lot like here at harvest ( even with the turbines!) except our trees would have turned colours. Ain't it fun when the weather cooperates and everything goes smoothly Ben

Great post. All that is missing is the "smells" of harvested grain but if one looks at the pics long enough, the smells come too.

Nice shots. Are those pictures from a camera with the "panoramic" function or do you have the stitch program in you photo program in the computer? They are very nice. Lots of feel or vastness of the land. Good job.

Great pics., as always. I can't think of a more graceful machine man has made in this century, than those windturbines. They remind me of a powerful team of Belgin horses. Tall and stately giants that quietly do their job.

Thank you everyone for the replies. The electricity isn't free but I guess the view is. The access roads for the windmills make it much nicer to get trucks out into the fields. It really speeds up driving time.

I'm not exactly sure. They seem to get by fine though. The days with low clouds and fog could be problematic but they don't normally fly at that time. It is very neat seeing the fan blades dip out of the fog as they spin and then pop back up into the clouds.

Have you noticed any adverse effects from those windmills?

Reason I asked, it's become an issue recently in a couple of adjoining counties. One issue is nearby people have complained about a "whoomping" sound every time a blade rotates past the ground, and other annoyances. One adjoining county is considering having the allowable noise level reduced from 50 dbs round the clock to 40 dbs during the day and 37 overnight within a certain distance. Another adjoining county has no comprehensive zoning plan, with each precinct setting their own guidelines and they're in a bit of a mess right now over it.

No one has proposed putting wind generators in our county as yet, but I've asked our County Planning and Zoning Administrator, and our County Attorney to review our zoning code as it applies to the wind generators. Our code now allows a noise level of 50 dbs and I'd like to see that reduced.

I intend to bring the issue up at our weekly meeting on Tuesday, and I'm open to comments.

They do make noise as the blades pass through the air. It is a whooshing noise and I relate it to waves coming ashore when you are close to the turbines. Its all about preference and I don't mind them at all. Actually its quite a soothing and rhythmic noise to me.

You typically cant hear the windmills unless you get fairly close.

I have never heard a Whompping noise or seen a bird hit one and fall to the ground. that being said I do not sit there and watch them on my free time. I have also never seen sheets of ice fly off like some say they do. I have also heard that the windmills were giving people migraines for some reason. Again, I have never gotten a headache or migraine from the turbines. I suppose some people get upset that the windmills "destroy" their skyline. I'll agree that it alters the skyline but I don't really think it ruins it.

I'm sure there were some that were unsettled when the old fashioned windmills showed up in Europe in the old days. Change can be hard sometimes.

Really nice pictures. The windmills and big fields remind me a lot of the area west of Lowville NY but then I imagine there are a lot of places that look like that, I just don't get around much to see them.

Nice photos.
Where are you located? It looks like a place in Kansas where I stopped to check out the windmills. Pulled off the interstate and drove out one of those access roads. I walked up to the base of one and was amazed at the size. Only a slight breeze and they were doing 8 RPM. I did find the sound kind of hypnotic.

after a Lions club meeting I asked another member if he was having headaches and or stomach trouble or trouble sleeping at night.
finally Mike said to me Virgil what to heck talking about?
I said well seeing how you have all those windmills in your back yard you are supposed to be feeling sick and making lots of doctor visits.
Mike said Virgil i have never felt better and laugh all the way to the bank when the rent check comes.

those pictures could have came from the area just west of me in stephenson co il the terrain looks like here.

It looks very much like around Ellsworth, IL in Mclean county. The field goes just past Bloomington to almost Gibson City. I got a good picture of one where I drove up to the base and opened the sunroof on my van. I got a picture with the blade right above us. At night they all blink red lights in unison in certain sections. On the ground, they are enormous. There is a crew that climbs them and have to go out on the head to check everything out. One of the group is a woman. I don't know if they wear a parachute??? Maybe inside the tube. Ha!
