Your mileage may vary

Anyone want to venture a quess as to how may miles are on their tractor? My first tractor was a 48 A John Deere. After I got it running ,I used to run it a 1/2 mile each way to the mail box. Did that daily for 2-3 years.( I was 14 or so,and it got me alot of seat time) Add in the miles and miles driven making rounds mowing and raking, pulling hay wagons and other field work, plus how ever many miles were put on it previous to me owning it.I would estimate 100,000 plus, or maybe many more????

The 4020 has 24,000 hours on it. The first 20 years it planted and cultivated in the summer and chored in the winter. After that it has been a chore type tractor only. I'd bet it had 100k in the first 20 years. After that it has done choring and haying which is run at a faster speed. It might have 150,000 total on it. I could look in the newer JD. I think it says somewhere in the computer. It has 7500 hours. The 8430 has 11,000 hours and nearly all of that has been running through the field in C1 - except for the hours it packed sileage.

I can tell you that in the last year the chore pickup has racked up exactly 3000 miles and it has never once been farther than two miles from home. That makes me rethink my tractor numbers.

Figure an average speed of 5 or 6 mph multiplied by the hours === that's a lot of seat time...

I always figured tractor average was around 4 to 5 miles per hour then take that times the hours. It's rough but gives you an idea. It is also interesting to figure gallons per hour a vehicle getting 20 miles per gallon doing 60 down the road would burn 3 gallons per hour . We compared a 350 Chevy in a truck vs combine and the combine did better . Maybe all that anti pollution wasn't that good for fuel milage

Last Year I bought two new tractors , one in June ,which now has 450 hours . this tractor really only gets to do field work. The other tractor I bought the end of December , it really only does yard work ,feeding cows, loading manure , that sort of thing , rarely leaves the yard. The yard tractor has 380 hours now. I do not think hours/miles equation works, I know the field tractor gets way more miles in a year than the yard tractor, but almost the same hours

The Ford Jubliee tractor operators manual had a chart in for that. I do not rember the figures and my manual is not handy to find out.

I raked hay with a 4wheeler and once raked about 6 acers and was over 30 miles that just really made me think about how many miles were on my old tractors
