Hi guys, I am just new to the forum and really glad I found it. Or Peter referred me to it.

Can I get a little input into a tractor decision? I have a 1450 Oliver diesel that has a blown head gasket( I believe). i am a little attached to this thing so would do the whole..yes fix everything and think about cost later. Anyone know a roundabout cost of that repair and the likelihood it isn't worse? And if worse any experience working on this Fiat motor and how difficult?

Thanks!!

Welcome to the "tractor clan" on the internet. Slide on down to the Oliver forum and post there.

rrlund has some of those Fiat tractors, he might be able to help you.

Traditionalfarmer will likely jump in on this too,but that 1450 was one of the worst tractors there was for having a reputation of blowing head gaskets. Many a 1450 has been ruined by breaking head bolts while trying to take one apart. My best advice is to just use whatever means are necessary to be super careful not to break them. I've never had the misfortune to have to take the head off one, maybe somebody else will have some advice on getting them off safely and in one piece.

Generally using an impact wrench you are much less likely to twist a bolt off than with a hard steady pull on a wrench.

That's kinda what I was thinking too. Depending on what's leaking and where,I think before I risked anything,I'd get it warmed up and pour a bottle of K-Seal in the radiator. Car guys claim it works wonders on head gaskets.
