OT - Anyone NOT Useing a Cell Phone Case???

I've got an iPhone and have had it for several years. It's an iPhone 5 - been through a battery and an Otter Box case. After the case fell apart, I bought a couple others for a try and just didn't like them. Without the case, the phone is much smaller and fits the pockets better. Since I'm ready for a new phone I figured - what the heck - I'll use it without a case and when it breaks, I'll upgrade.

Problem is - it's been over a year and (so far) no matter how hard it gets dropped or knocked around, still ticking. Very surprised.

Anyone NOT use a cell phone case?

Just curius.

Thanks!
Bill

I have a sprint phone that has a rubber surface, military grade. I've dropped it from 10 foot to the cement and it still works. I carry it in my pocket. Those belt cases don't work for me,there always falling off or getting in the way if I'm working on a tractor.

I still have a flip phone. My phones get damaged a lot. I replaced my last one a few months ago for $14, no contract. I will always buy the cheapest. I have no real interest in all those extra features and staring zombie-like at a little screen. I see some contractors who use them extensively and it probably makes sense for that sort of thing, the ability to contact crews, send pictures, obtain tech info, etc. For me, caring for a property and shoeing horses, I only need the occasional text and to make and receive calls. Most things I would need a smart phone for I can wait until I'm on the computer.

I do find it interesting that guys who like old tractors are into cutting edge technology.

don t use a case or screen protector,my nephew make a good living repairing cell phones :)

I use a case. Too many drops, knocks, bangs, etc. to go without. I did move from a 5s that wouldn't float, even with a lifeproof case, to an Asus Zen2 for economic reasons. I couldn't justify paying 650 and losing another one. I use bright cases i can see where I dropped it. Best of luck to you. I prefer the feel without the case but...

Don't think they even make one for my little flip phone. Nothing except make and recieve calls. And only carry it when I am leaving home.

I buy Small camera cases at Walmart. $5. Has a full belt loop. zipper top. Doesn't break nor come off working around equipment. Normal phone size, but works on flip phones too.

I have a little "DUMB" flip phone that lives in my shirt pocket, with no "babysealbox" and it somehow survives.

On the other hand, if you are an IMPORTANT dude that needs to have an $800 "SMARTphone" along while you "farm", I can see the reason for encasing it in a heavy-duty condom.

Oh, yeah, and at that level "silent" or "vibrate" doesn't meet your needs and the damned thing has to beep and phart and tweet or play "Dixie" or the submarine Klaxon dive alarm just so the rest of us can be made aware of just how important you are!

YAMMV!

I thought about getting one, I think they would be kind of handy, but I don't use mine that much now. I keep it in my truck when I am doing tractor work. If I lose it, I will go back to Wallmart, and if they happen to be on sale again get a new one for $9.00, and a $100.00 Year plan. Stan

I carry my flip phone in a padded case on my belt. First case got from wal mart and was held closed with a magnet. After if fell out of case three times I went to ATT and got a case called Nite Ize made by Innovation and cost $40.00 but have never had it fall out of this case.

I am on the phone program where I work, and recently got my first I-phone recently, and I got the thin case and screen protector that the girl at the office ordered for me. The phone is so thin that it is not even noticeable in my front pants pocket. As she was ordering it for me I noticed that it cost the company only $99.00 and is on a two year contact. Works for me!

Haven't used one in years, but then I'm using a $9.00 Trac phone flip style. Who needs a case?

Screen protector yes, painters tape on both lenses, pull back when taking a photo, HTC one with an aluminum case, seems durable enough as is. It resides in my right leg pocket, carpenter jeans, thin so you don't really notice it. Now if it was prone to being dropped more, might be good to have a case, but they do load up with chaff sawdust/chips. Screen protector is a must though. The power jack does get bits of wood in it at times, and its a pain to clean, either leave the phone in a pouch or soft case somewhere safe or tape up that port on the bottom. In as much as I don't care for much of the electronic wizardry of today, being able to be tracked etc LOL !.... the smart phone is handy for many kinds of things, the weather maps are one I use many times a day in some instances.

Upgrade is due this coming month, now time to figure out which one I want next.

Even though I have a full-time job and play around with some "large-scale gardening", I think I understand just how UNIMPORTANT I really am, so I don't carry my phone all the time. I switched to my first smart phone when the whole family changed carriers last year, as this just made the switch easier. At first, I only had the tempered glass screen protector, but I bent the phone in my back pocket climbing into the hayloft- broke only the screen protector. I added a case, but the belt holster doesn't work for a fat guy like me, either. Usually I just toss the phone in the toolbox or cupholder.
The old couple across the street just told us that their son, a contractor developing a subdivision in former farm land, somehow pinned himself with the loader- broke both ends of his pelvis and crushed his colon requiring surgery. He had his phone and called 911- otherwise working alone in a remote area he may not have gotten help for quite some time...

I guess I'd have to use a cell phone to use a cell phone case. I'd look pretty foolish just carrying the case around.

I use a Tracfone smart android phone. First one lasted about 6 weeks in my pocket until I bent over the grain tank of the combine when cleaning it out. Sounded like an old fashioned ice cube tray cracking.

Replacement phones are like $20... The replacement one has been good for over a year, though I put it in my shirt pocket now.

Downside to no case, is that it will dial my wife on its own... makes her mad when she gets a call that is just tractor noises.

I've replaced about half a dozen screens between the wife and I on iPhone 4/4s. Bought a used iphone 5 with an Otterbox and haven't broke a screen yet. Don't really care for that big case on it but saves a fair amount of time and money fixing broke screens.

Iphone 4s for 4 years with just screen protector. I started buying only shirts that have a button pocket back then, and the phone with no case lives in there.
I had the local seamstress add a button and button hole to several old favorites that had pockets with no buttons.

For what it is worth....

I LIKE my flip phone. I only have it to be a TELEPHONE!! NOTHING ELSE!!

Over the years, I have found that a cell phone makes a LOUSY internet appliance. Not all that convenient as a camera or camcorder either. I simply see no need for much more than basic communication. I carry mine primarily to stay in touch with friends and family.

Don't need GPS or a host of "apps" to entertain me or others around me.

Oh, and a word about the weird noises coming out of some of the phones around. They do not impress others. More likely they ANNOY others around you. I completely agree with Bob on that one.
