case 310 dozer carb problems

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum an new to owning old tractors. I have an old case 310 dozer. Last year I pulled carb off because it was pouring fuel out of the carb intake . I figured float was stuck down.well ended up being a hole in it. I ordered a rebuild kit for it. Just installed it. An I seem to be having same issue. I did put new float in it.I have took apart an assembled. But I don't see what can be the problem. Thanks Matt

Either the float is set too high or the needle valve isn't sealing properly. Does the needle valve have a groove wore around the pointed end? You can lower the float by bending each float arm down a little. With the carburetor bowl removed and the float installed, you should be able to blow some air through from above and manually push the float up to see if the needle valve seals.

I belive there is a groove just under the point on hkthe needle. I'll have to try bending it down a little.
Is there only Goin to be so much gas in the bowl ? Is that why it might not be Goin up high enough to close the needle

Were there any specs with the carb kit? If so, there should be a float level measurement.

If you have the old float, there will be a "level line" stain where the old float used to sit in the fuel. You can look at where that line was, get a good idea where the new float should rest on the needle valve with the top inverted.

When adjusting the float level, be sure not to apply pressure to the needle. It will cut the rubber and cause it to stick or leak.

Also the fuel supply to the carb must be CLEAN! If any rust or trash is coming through the line, it WILL find it's way into the needle and seat, cause it to flood. If this happens, sometimes you can turn off the fuel, drain the carb, then turn the fuel back on and it will flush out the debris.

Sometimes a suspected flooding carb in not really flooding. A true flooding carb will drip fuel any time the fuel valve is on. But, any updraft will drip some fuel following a failed, choke assisted start. It will stop within a few seconds though.

I'll have to check into this. I have to see if there is a set depth for the float.also I hope in haven't messed the new needle up already. I did push on it with the float. An yes. I'd say it is a true fail leak. Cause it starts right when I turn the key on. Thank you so much for your help.

Yes, there is only supposed to be a certain level of fuel in the bowl. You might try polishing the end of the needle valve with some steel wool,if you think it might not be sealing properly. I guess you could leave the carburetor on the tractor and just remove the bowl, if possible. You could then turn the gas on and see if the flow stops when you manually raise the float.

Want to thank all of you for your suggestions an input. I don't get up north everyweekend. More like every 2 to 3 weeks . Soni had some time to tinker with the carb thus weekend. Bent the float to be more accurate. It was sitting high which would of kept a lot of fuel in the bowl. Well I didn't get it to stop leaking. So now I'm on to the next step . Buy another needle . Also want to wish every one a merry Christmas an happy new year.
I'll let you guys know what fixes it.
Thanks again for all the input.
