Man, I hate it when that happens

Doing my annual greasing-of-the-snowthrower and found a big hex-head screw in the bottom of the case. Right now I'm taking a break from working through the parts diagrams to find all the places a screw of that size is used, and then looking for the hole that doesn't have this one in it. Only about ten more possibilities to go...

When my brother was younger he would work out of my shop. I several times would throw a bolt or nut, that was entirely too large for his project, into his parts. LOL He paid me back. I had a transfer case out of one of my pickups. The one I had, had the lose needle bearings that you have to count them and hold them to the shaft with a rubber band while installing them. He found a couple of needle rollers that where the exact same size and threw them in my parts. I took that thing apart twice and counted the rollers before I figured out he had gotten me. LOL There are like 250 needle rollers in those older cases.

My dad ended up with an extra piston groove spacer after he got all the pistons in, took engine back apart and found out parts store gave him and extra one, he counted them every time after that.

Many years ago, working at a marina, pulled the intake off a 283 Chevy engine in a cruiser. This was a late
50's, early 60's model with a 4 barrel Rochester carb.

Those old carbs had a big screw, probably a 3/8 x 2" slot head screw in the center of the base, screwed in
from the bottom. The screw had fallen out and wedged it's self standing on end in one of the intake runners!

What are the odds of that happening! Just wasn't that engines day to die! LOL

I had one of those and when I pulled the Rochester off one of the screws was missing. Thought maybe it was never there. Found it embedded in the top of #8 piston after I started it.

Back when I was working for a living, one of the guys in our crew bought a used pickemup from his brother in law- a 'real
creampuff'. Yhe first day he drove it to work, I poured a few ounces of oil from an old jug under it. And a bit more the next
day. He went about half crazy trying to find that leak on that 'junker that that no good BIL had unloaded on him. Even wanted me
to pay the $50 fee the car dealership charged him for putting the truck on a lift and doing a complete inspection for oil leaks.
I think he may still be mad at me......

more than likely hes talking about the oil spacer that goes in with the 2 wire rings that hold it in also called an expansion ring
