rewiring a doorbell

It was removed for painting and I thought it would be easy enough to remember where the wires go. I was wrong again. There are three pairs of wires coming out of the wall. One is from the front door doorbell switch and another from another door. The third wire is from the transformer?. One terminal is marked front and one is back. The center terminal marked Trans.. So I have six wires to go on three terminals. two white wires that go to the doorbell switches were connected to each other, and not to a terminal. that still left four wires to go to three terminals. I put each red wire to the terminals marked front and back. That left just two wires to go to the trans. terminal. One is white and one is black. I connected one to that center terminal and the bell did not ring, I connected the other one to it and it still does not ring, when I press the doorbell switch.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Steve

IGNORE the red "X".

Two of them will show about 15 volts one of those goes to the transformer terminal on the unit.
Have someone push the button on the back door and hold it. Now two of the remaining wires will be showing low resistance between them. these are the back door wires. Hook one of them to the loose (non connected transformer wire) and one to the terminal for the back door.
Hook the remaining two wires, one to the same place you connected the back door wire (non terminal transformer wire) with a wire nut) connect the remaining wire to the Front door terminal. Jim

Been a while but if I recall correctly.
First set of wires from the transformer.
One will go to the trans terminal.
The other will tie together with one each from the wiring pairs coming from the front and back.
The remaining two wires 1 from front and 1 from back will go to the respective terminals on the bell.

Toss the bell, get one of the new wireless bells, You mount the button near the door. You plug in two "bells" into elec outlets inside. All done.

SDE,

This is no help right now - but might be a help in the future...

When I mess with something... before unhooking/dismantling stuff I snap a photo with my phone. Then when I'm putting something back together, I can look at the pic.

Thank you Bob, I had tried to find a wiring diagram like this one that you have provided, but had not found one.
thank you
