2020 diesel not charging battery

The Alternator light came on and stays on, I have replaced the battery, Alternator, and regulator but still can't get it to charge the battery, and the light stays on.
What is left to check, connections cleaned?

Check for a shorted or damaged wire between the alternator and the instrument panel.

Also, there MAY be a connector up under the hood that is damaged, dirty, or not plugged in all the way. (It's been at least 25 years since I've worked on one.)

Also, for more help, it would probably be a good idea to post the serial #, as (IIRC) there were some changes made during production.

Does the light come on with the ignition on, engine not running? If not, the indicator lamp has lost power
from the ignition switch.

If the light does come on with the ignition on, check the wiring to the regulator, be sure the regulator is
grounded.

Not sure what brand alternator that uses, but you can search a basic wiring diagram for it, check the
connections. Might take the alt and have it checked, even though it's new/rebuilt anything is possible.

Check your wiring harness. Your tractor should still have the Motorola Alternator and regulator on it. That was not the greatest combination and it is higher cost to repair. Also make sure the regulator is grounding. Junk the short braded ground cable form each battery. Go with sold cables down to the starter mounting bolts. Using the braded ground cables to the dash panel was one of the dumbest thing JD did on these utility tractors.

Thank you

brayans2020: You should check the key switch out when you check your harness. I have had them not send power to the regulator so the charging system is dead from no supplied power to the regulator. You need to get a wiring diagram and see which wire does what when the key is turned on. I have not had a wiring issue in a JD 2020 for years so I can't tell you without a diagram in front of me.

Your tractor came with two batteries side by side with a JUNK short positive cable going under the clamp bolt of the positive that went to the starter. Then both batteries grounded with the braded cables to the firewall/dash panel. You can now get the positive cable in one piece with the two ends made on the singe cable. I prefer using two cables one from each battery terminal to the starter solenoid and then two individual ground cables going down to the starter mounting bolts. The tractor will crank 50% better. Really noticeable in cold weather starting.

Nice looking tractor. The JD 2020 was a real powerhouse on the PTO. We had a neighbor that ran the silage blower with his. It really worked well for its size.

It was the connector up under the dash with 2 purple wires in one
end of it. I cleaned it and all is well !
Thank You
