Mazda b2300 truck

Our family is need of a beater vehicle local ford lot
has a 97 Mazda b2300 no rust but 249k miles.
Clean car fax only three owners was Tennessee
vehicle. Asking $2400. Thoughts I have not had
need to buy a used car for well over ten years but
times change...sigh

Don't know all the details, but that is really high on the price. Blue book on a basic truck is $875-1600.

They were tough trucks, but with that many miles it will be near the end of it's practical life. Good news, it's old enough to be worked on.

Clean Car Fax means that it has had no work done at a shop that participates in Car Fax, which leaves hundreds of thousands of shops that could have worked on it.

Dealers keep trades on the lot this time of year that they normally would wholesale or send to auction in anticipation of income tax season, being a 97 model with that many miles I guaruntee you that they have next to nothing in the truck and you should be able to buy it for a 1000 cash any day of the week.

Lot of money for a 20 yr old Ranger... and a bunch of miles too but they are a tough little truck. I'd be most concerned about the frame rails. They break, usually on the left side, usually at the middle cross member by the shackle.... and usually with an otherwise good body. So look at that closely. If it runs good otherwise, 1000 bucks should buy it any day of the week.

Get a good mechanic you trust to check it out for you it may well be a decent buy... If you do not know a good mechanic you can trust don't buy it because you will need a good mechanic you can trust for a 97 with 250K on the clock...

Clean car fax means very little. I have personally traded 3 vehicles off that had fairly major damage, and all came back with clean car faxes when we traded them off. One had been in two accidents with 4,000 damage each, one had approx 5,000 damage, and one in which the only panels that had not been replaced were the driver door, hood, and roof (entire bed had been replaced in one rear end collision. As others have said, Car Fax only works if the vehicle was repaired in a shop that reports the damages. I know one of those vehicles had been repaired at two GM body shops.

I just sold this 86 with 64,000 actual miles on it 3 months ago for considerably less than that. I would keep looking.
