Pretty good place to work

The local paper did a story on the graphite shop where my youngest son works. He's been there about 5 years now. One of my nephews has been there for over 20 years. It's one of those modern manufacturing places that's really not that bad of a place to work from what the boys claim. Not really factory work the way it used to be. They depend on each person working there to have actual skills and contribute to overall production.

Our machine shop has a/c set at 74 and heat at 67. Clean and good lighting. The only real down side is you are standing on concrete 10 hrs a day.
There are some pretty darn good manufacturing jobs out there.

Nice!

Looks like the days of the old sweat shops are rapidly declining.

They probably have some pretty demanding customers. They have to meet certain standards if they want the contracts.

I worked at a manufacturing facility that built automotive air conditioning. Most of it was aftermarket, they could care less as long as it was cheap. But then we got big enough to get some Ford and Mazda contracts. That was a whole new game! They came in and toured the plant, checked things like floor space per employee, light levels, noise levels, temperature, air quality... The company wanted the business, so the employees benefited in improved conditions. They needed it!

Randy,
Nice to see local jobs still around. The days of huge factories are probably gone. But maybe a bunch of small job shops can help fill in. Its good to hear that its a good place to work.
