I've owned this truck since new, has the v10, never any electrical issues before. Came out of work today and had a no start. When you open the door nothing happens except the fuse panel was chattering like crazy. So I pulled the fuse panel off from below the lower left side of the steering column and the number one relay was vibrating along with all the chattering. Manual says it is the interior lamp relay. When I pull the relay out and put the key in the chime goes like it should and then quits after a couple seconds. Could replacing this seemingly unrelated relay solve the issues with the rest of the trucks electrical system? Or could the ignition switch be the issue?

I drive the truck frequently and believe the battery is full, cables look good and tight.

Thanks in advance. I would like to get through this without throwing a lot of parts at it.

Check the battery cables and the connection at the starter. Corrosion does weird stuff. It's cheapest and easiest place to start.

ditto on voltage my 99' expedition will do as you describe when battery is nearly completely dead dome light stayed on till I sprayed door latch with wd-40 common problem. hopefully that is your problem easy fix.

Was it raining in your area when this happened? The windshields on these like to leak and get the fuse block wet. I had a customer with one that was burning up starters, but only after a rain. Turns out, the fuse block was getting wet and would crank the engine during the night until the batteries were dead and the starter smoked. New windshield solved the issue.

Just quoting to second what was said. It was one of the bigger electrical problem areas on these trucks, excursions, f-150's and expeditions too, due to the location and possible windshield leak. What you might look for is white powdery tracks around the bottom and connector areas, this usually indicates water has been in there.

My 2001 f350 has no driver door switch because it kept sticking. When I had my windshield replaced the shop checked my fuse box as they mentioned lots of corrosion issues - shorting between circuits.
