Has anyone else experienced this? I have just had my third episode in about a year It comes on as very minor pain, cross-ways on one side or the other, It is positively not a muscle pull because it starts light then gets worse and worse over maybe ten minutes, then tapers off and goes completely away. It is so bad that it made me nauseous. I have had it once on the left and twice now on the right. The first two times I was driving and puled over when I got to where I could, then it went away. This evening I got up from the sofa, (I am down with a bad cold) and tried stretching to no avail. It feels like it goes horizontally just under the shoulder blade.

Had the pain been lower, I was going to suggest kidney stones passing into the bladder- mine start like back pain or a knife wound, then progress across and around, then disappear after entering the bladder and out.

I threw my back out this morning- the high school my children attended had "borrowed" some straw bales and corn stalks for decorations when hosting a teachers' conference. They asked me to retrieve them and I finally remembered today. The bales on the bottom weighed about 150 pounds each after soaking up all that rain. Shoulda got the loader tractor :(

I had that pain, turned out to be a disk in my neck, felt like someone was sticking a knife in my back.

Get the heart and blood chemistry checked out first.

I had back/shoulder pain a
few years back, sometimes it
would be downright terrible,
other times non existent. It
ended up I had pulled 3 or 4
ribs out of place and my
shoulder blade was grinding
away at the nerves that run
along the ribs. Got the ribs
put back in, all was good.
Had the pain on and off for
about 3 months before someone
figured out what it was. Work
doctor made me go to physical
therapy, of course all that
did was aggravate it more. A
chiropractor is who finally
figured it out.

Showcrop GO get checked out ASAP!!!!!!! Your back pain can be your lungs or heart. With you having a cold you could very well be developing pneumonia with fluid in your lungs. This WILL cause terrible pain across your back. Right under your shoulder blades. It also ties into the nausea. You also could be experiencing heart problems as well. A good friend of mine had similar pains and he "toughed" it out to die a few weeks later. The Doctor told us his body was warning him with the back pains and he ignored the warning.

SO PLEASE go to a Doctor NOW!!! You do not know me from Adam but please get checked out. If it truly is just a pulled muscle then GREAT but it could be much worse.

So please take this seriously!!!!

Spent the past 35+ years with intense back pain. I've been on every type of pain killer the
doctors know. My back is completely worn out between the several of the disks. I've lost a couple
of inches in height. Will be out of work for a year if I have surgery. Only relief is a weekly
visit to the chiropractor. Will retire at labor day 2016. After that we get serious about getting
it fixed.

I've had back pain for years but not like you have, I'd get yours checked out soon, could be something totally different. My legs have been going numb for a year and a half, went to the Dr, had x rays, had mri, said your backs shot but you got worse problems, possible aorta aneurysm, got ultra sound, found worse problems, 2 really bad iliac artery aneurysms. Just had the surgery Wednesday, was supposed to be 2 stents, they had trouble and I ended up with five, think the last three were installed with a tire iron. Starting to feel better today, lots of black/blue slowly going away, only 2 pain pills today, but when this is healed up I'm still going to have numb legs and I'm not likin the thought of more surgery.

I agree, would be best to get things checked out to be on the safe side. From what my chiropractor has told me, generally, T-7 or T-8 vertebrae is about right under the shoulder blade area. That area can be affected by postural muscles as well as abdominal muscles being tight and stronger than your back muscles. If your hips are twisted somewhat that puts tension in that spot as the rest of your body is trying to straighten its self out. I have had back and neck trouble for over 25 years. Odd pains can show up in odd places at times. Could also be from a shoulder rotated forward and straining the muscles in that area as the shoulder blade is pulled out and forward when that happens. Just a thought, from what I had been told by a chiropractor there are places in the back that gallbladder pain can show up but usually, usually... it is right sided and you would have more symptoms after eating a fatty meal. Part of the reason it can go from side to side at times is the muscle on the opposite side is counter balancing the muscle on the other side.

I got it figured out. I am passing kidney stones. I was sure by the way it comes on and goes that it is not a muscle pull, and from twenty years as an EMT and CPR instructor, I know that it is not consistent with an MI or other heart episode. It is very different from the pain of spine problems that I have had. I am pretty sure that kidney stones are more likely if you have hard water which we do. I had a softener put in some fifteen years ago, but about fifteen months ago, I put in a bypass for the kitchen sink and garden hose, because of the sodium in softened water. So I am going to the doctors because I know that they can detect them and break them up. I don't want to ever go through that pain again.

I've had stones before but the pain was always in my lower abdomen and the onset was always much longer than 10 minutes.

i think you're right with the kidney stones....i suffered with them for 20 yrs. till i got off the ice tea,..pain starts just below the ribs on the back and then intensifies till you start
barfing...don't know what your habits are but doc told me anything i drank should be clear, my problems went away..
