Way high the way the cattle market is headed plus they bring less per pound than
beef breeds when sold at market weights.Baby calves are risky anyway.

And bull prices are more than heifers.

To much money for me knowing the risk involved with week old calves.

I always love how most of those guys say that a week or 2 week old calf has "had all their vaccinations ".

Local dairy replacement market is down here from a year ago. Son just bought two 1500 pounders, just fresh for $1200 and $1400. A year ago those cows would have brought in the $2,000 or a bit better range.

Yeah calves were lower but have come up a bit just recently around here

A calf that young is too young to elicit an immune response. That is why clostrum is so important. The passive immunity from the clostrum protects the calf somewhat untill its immune system develops enough to form its own antibodies.
