st my wifes church they have a box mounted to the wall ,It is for donations to pay for candles you may light if you would like to .Someone during the night ripped the box off the wall and took it.They have it on camera,he bowed when he was done, and left with the box.

Guy probably needed a fix and didn't have the nerve nor means to rob a convenience store.

Larry, we had that same thing happen in our church only the thief opened it up and took the money. Now the money is removed every day or whenever money is in there and the church is locked at night. Ours is a small town church with a small congregation but we aren't immune from theft.

Sad commentary on the human race, isn't it?

I grew up not too far from a country church. Back in the day, the doors were NEVER locked - it was perfectly OK to go in and pray, get a drink of water or use the restroom. We neighborhood kids used to go there and play softball. Now days every church around is locked up tight.

In one small town here, thieves came in broad daylight and went into the church sanctuary and ripped-off all their speakers and amplifiers. The pastor was in the church at the time, but was in his office at the other end of the building.

Crack-heads and Meth-heads will steal anything for their next buzz.

I too remember the church never being locked. If you did that today the entire thing would be robber or vandalized. People have little respect for anything these days. That includes themselves or their families.

Those are votive candles. You light them when offering up a prayer for a loved one.

Sad state of affairs today isn't it ? One of the farms in the area north of here that is similar to your area in PA, someone took the cash box at the stand. Some farms have an honor system, so there is no attendant, just a room, with a till drawer, a sign in sheet and a camera. He was caught and the mug shot posted, young asian/chinese looking fellow, maybe he learned a valuable lesson about theft or will turn in to a career burglar.

Robbing from church's and other religions building have been the norm sense the first religion built a structure and have valuables inside. It's definitely not a sing of the time, it's a problem of the ages.

What's the world coming to . My church was broken into and they made off with the brass plates and candle sticks . Lucky the police found them in a home aruond the corner and charged the theifs . They started to bend the plates for scrap , but we manage to straighten them .

A few years back our church was broken into. Primary items stolen were computer stuff. Cops found critter on a traffic stop a while later with a bunch of blank checks from another church in the back seat along with a bunch of other computer stuff. When they searched his place they found computer stuff from churches and schools all over. He was refurbishing and selling them. Guess where he learned the trade? Guess they didn't teach, "thou shall not steal," in prison.

I was watching an interview of Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas explaining where they came up with the song, "California Dreamin'". She said that they were touring in England, it wasn't going real well, and all but one of them were out of money. They scraped up their pennies and managed to get a flight as far as New York. When they got there with no coats or money, it was winter, and they were stranded, so they stopped into a church (when they were unlocked) to warm up, the priest or reverend preached to them, and all that they really wanted was to get back to their home in much warmer California.

Our little country church was broken into this summer. The thief took our safe. What a surprise he got when he got it open and found nothing but old church documents. His mother saw the safe in his bed room and remembered seeing the news report about the robbery. She called the cops and turned him in. We did get all of our old documents and the safe back.
